More Chart information for Dan
Posted on: 07/19/2016 05:59 PM

I just picked up a book that lists the Adult Contemporary chart from CCM magazine. Before Billboard started publishing Christian music charts, CCM Magazine was the authority on contemporary Christian music. I knew of CCM's pop music chart, but was not aware that they also had an AC chart. Several of Dan's songs that did not make the CCM pop chart did make the AC chart. Here they are:

1979 - All Things are Possible - 1
1979 - Divine Lady - 25
1984 - Doer of the Word - 2
1984 - Redeemer - 26
1985 - Holy Spirit - 39
1986 - Lonely People - 1
1986 - Electro-Voice - 33
1987 - A New Song - 18
1987 - Crossover - 17
1987 - I Will Not Be Silent - 24

Thanks Mark.

To my knowledge only "All Things Are Possible" LP was released down under. Dan appreciated a copy of the Aussie issue I emailed with the extra wording. I don't know if
"Love Was Just Another Word" was ever released as a single. If not, it should have been.

Interesting fact, Lonely People hit number 1 on the AC charts twice. In 1974 America's version of Lonely People hit number 1 on the Billboard AC chart and in 1986 Dan's Christian remake of it hit number 1 on the CCM AC chart.

Thanks for the CCM chart info on Dan. I had never seen that before. "Doer Of The Word" was about as "America" a song as Dan had ever done solo. I wasn't surprised it was a big Christian hit. "Crossover" hitting #17? Hmmm, I'd have thought that one would have made at least the top 10. The album itself was "Ok", but the first 3 Dan Peek solo releases are real keepers...

Crossover did do a little better on the main CCM pop charts, it hit 13. I would have thought it would have done better on the CCM AC chart since it is more of an AC / Easy Listening song than a pop hit, but it didn't.

Here is how Dan's songs did on the main CCM chart:

1979 - All Things are Possible - 1 (for 13 weeks)
1979 - Divine Lady - 23
1984 - Doer of the Word - 2
1986 - Lonely People - 2
1986 - Electro-Voice - 7
1987 - Crossover - 13

I was surprised that some other songs did not chart, like "Ready for Love", "One Way", "Power & Glory", and "My Jesus". Those songs are among my favorites on his CCM albums. Still not sure what goes into the process of targeting certain songs for singles and hits while others that sound better to me are passed by. There are several America songs that I thought would have been sure hits that were not even released as singles, like "To Each His Own", "Baby It's Up To You", "Another Try", "Ol Virginia", "Jet Boy Blue", "Hurricane", "I Do Believe In You", "Valentine", "Tonight Is For Dreamers", "Call of the Wild", "Whole Wide World", "Wheels Are Turning"...
