It's the 24th July Down Under
Posted on: 07/23/2014 04:20 PM

Dan Peek

It's the 24th July down here. A date that's etched in my memory forever. I can't believe it's 3 years since Dan left us.

To Catherine, Tom, David, Milton and to all the Peek family...our thoughts and prayers.

Bluey.

Remembering Dan on this anniversary date. Will always remember how very kind he was to his fans and how appreciative he was towards them.

Hello Gentlemen! Nice to see posts from those of you who haven't shared in awhile! Amazing how time flies, eh? For Dan, time is no more. That must be an amazing thing. I'm grateful to Dan for leaving, first with America, a legacy of lyrics that although not blatant, certainly point to the Man! Those lyrics, and the overtly Christian ones from later years make a good declaration to those who would care to receive them. Praise God!

Hi all,

Nice comments in memory of Dan. I was unable to access yesterday as my co-ordination for log in was lacking somewhat. Have a good summer all!

PS: I hope that America continues. Life is a bit of a bus journey each passenger deciding at which stop to get off. I like the Here and Now CD Cover.

Mornin', Y'all! I just read a book that my cousin gave me the weekend I was in Sacramento to see America at the State Fair. I KNOW Dan Peek would really like it. So I'm going to stick my long, skinny neck out and recommend it here. I have the paperback edition, which is about 1/2 inch thick. I found one spelling error (teehee) and several sentences that made me limp and read them again to figure out what he was saying. Other than that, it's very clear, very simple and DOable! I think it's the most important book I've come across in the last decade!

The book is written by a Lutheran pastor. My cousin is Lutheran. I'm not, but that doesn't matter. After being a missionary for years, I can say the book is spot on. It brings missions down to the individual level. All you need is to be a person and to have relationships with other people!

"Joining Jesus on His Mission" - How to be an Everyday Missionary, by Greg Finke. Amazon's price is $8.49, which I think is high for an EBook. But then I think everything over FREE is "high." It's available for Nook and another Edevice I've never heard of. Paperback edition is listed on Amazon at $14.something.

God bless you guys, and Go For It!!! Enjoy!

Hi Shasta - I am curious to know if you are familiar with what is known as the Bible Code and what you think. Below is a YouTube link to someone named Jonathan Matthew Wright and his explanation of the Bible Codes. He is known on YouTube as "Codesearcher dotnet" - I believe it is. Anyway, please check him out and his numerous code searches and let me know what you think - legit or phony in your opinion.

Mornin', KoG! It's SO good to have you back posting!!! I've sure missed you. Did you get a new computer or what?

Hmmm. You're asking my assessment? After the DaVinci Code, I'm a bit hesitant. I try not to delve into things that just don't "smell" right, you know? But, I will take a gander at this site you suggested. Without even looking, my first reaction is to shy away (just because of the name) and also because I feel any attempt to put God in a box and make Him predictable is from the WRONG camp. Until I can figure out how to make man out of dirt, and make my own dirt outta nothing, I can't figure out God!

Alas, I have work this a.m. So I will have to take a gander later, 'Gator! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Re: It's the 24th July Down Under

Afternoon KoG. O.K. I watched the whole first video. I have many thoughts:

1. This is an intellectual attempt to understand what's in the Bible. I want to know where the Holy Spirit is, Who's supposed to give us the understanding?
2. He criticizes rabbis and he criticizes mystics. The former because they only look at the 1st five books of the OT. The latter because it just ain't his cup of tea. In other words, he doesn't understand!
3. What is this term "ELS" that he keeps talking about?
4. The only languages he mentions are English and Hebrew - as for there being codes. If this theory is valid, codes can be found in ALL linguistic translations of the Bible. Furthermore, are there people doing this kind of research in other languages and finding the exact same codes?
5. He shows part of his "files" or whatever, on his computer. From what I saw, he only uses the KJV and the Greek NT. As fine of a translation as the KJV is, it was written hundreds of years before the Dead Sea Scrolls were uncovered, which have aided modern translators in their work. He's limiting himself if he's only using KJV.
6. Interesting comment, "God has hidden things FROM the enemy." What he means by this is that the enemy is too dumb to figure out the codes. Again, as if all it takes is intellect to understand the mysteries of God. I disagree. The enemy doesn't have access to the H. Spirit, and He's the one Who gives the understanding.
7. He says he somewhat "interprets" Scripture. Dangerous.
8. He states the world is evil. My immediate question is: Did God make an evil world? The answer is NO. The world is NOT evil, but evil IS at work IN the world. Big difference.

Qualifiers: I'm a mathematical idiot! His terminology and the significance thereof, are way over my half-brain. So, because it's over my head, do I immediately say this is from the wrong camp? Nope. I simply say I don't understand. Do I want to understand these codes? Nope. Gotta say it outright! I think the dude would call me an idiot "mystic" because my concern is knowing God and hearing from Him. I can do that through reading Scripture and I can do that by making myself available to be spoken to!!! Spiritual Meet 'n Greet! I have a friend who called herself the following, and I figure it's a good description of Ellen: "I'm a born-again, Spirit-filled, on-fire-for-Jesus, fundamental Christian." What a mouthful, but it pretty well covers it. This guy would classify himself as "born-again, fundamental Christian." He's leaving out at least 1/2 of the equation. That and the fact that his terminology is over my head, make me disinterested.

And, there you have it! Ain' cha glad ya asked??? TeeHee. Now I wanna know what YOU think, KoG! And, yes, I second your question to Godot and I'll add on Rhufe - others???

S - I do believe the Bible codes are legit. If the codes found by Codesearcher Matthew are real (which I do believe as I stated), this world is in a whole lot of trouble upcoming in 2015. The 7-year tribulation is soon to be upon us according to the codes. The fall of the United States (revealed by the codes as "Mystery Babylon") is also coming soon - next year per the codes.

However, the good news for the believer is that the Rapture is also upcoming and very soon as found in the codes. It's extremely bad news for those who do not believe in Jesus as their Messiah. They will face the horrors of the tribulation. Anyway, to each his/her own in whether or not one believes in its legitimacy.

Lastly, I think the 4 Blood Moons (which started on April 15 of this year and ends on September 25, 2015 and astonishingly falls on Jewish Feast Days) is a sign from God that Isreal will be involved in war. Just look at what is happening now with Isreal and Hamas. Isreal will come out victorious. God has His protection over that country.

I can't help but wonder what DanP would have thought about the codes and the 4 Blood Moons.

I don't know...if one attempts to be "too intellectual" about these things, the truth can get blurred & too many questions are posed. I'm a simpleton, so-to-speak, so just try to keep it simple & have faith like a child (i.e. just believe rather than understand).
Blessings.

Rhufe, Naw, I'm the simpleton of simpletons! I claim the spot! I think God gifts everybody according to the role(s) He wants them to play in His grand design. I'm no dummy, but I ain't gifted in math! To spend my time trying to understand those codes is not only a waste of time for me right now, but I think it's dangerous! I run the risk of falling for a hoax, just because I do NOT understand.

Now, KoG, I'm saying these codes or Matthew are a hoax! I'm saying it's beyond my understanding. Good comparison; I could walk in cold off the street and attempt to do you job, and mess a whole lot of people up, right? I understand what I understand (and I'm not forgetting that we're admonished to study to show ourselves approved) but it's my responsibility to share what I know and understand. We are have that job. If you understand it, go for it. Maybe someday you'll get it through my thick skull!!!

Later, Guys!

NO, KoG! I'm the one who NEEDS to get this CORRECT! But I hesitate to even try. I knew by mid-afternoon that I wasn't operating on all cylinders. But, jeepers creepers, I just read my post of this morning and it borders on jibberish!

I do NOT believe this guy or his theory(s) are hoaxes. There, plain, simple English coming from an apparent communicative simpleton! With that I leave you. I need a nap. Hopefully I cannot put my foot too deeply into my mouth while sleeping! Will try again later to make sense!

Three mistakes in one paragraph is ridiculous, don't you think???

Bow-wow and Oink-oink, KoG! Now, let's see; of the 2, which would I rather be, a dog or a pig? Ignoring the significance of dogs and pigs to the Jews, dogs are much cuter and really smart - some breeds. But pigs can be housetrained too, ya know! Our county sheriff had a pet Vietnamese pig that they let in the house all the time. But, alas, the poor little piggies get butchered and eaten. Of course, in some cultures, so do dogs.

Back on topic. Do you get what I'm saying, KoG? If God has gifted you to delve into these codes, and after doing so, the H. Spirit bears witness, then go for it! I just don't have that gifting. But I ain't gonna be stupid and throw the notion in the garbage can. They're on the shelf, and if and when God tells me to take them off the shelf and examine them more closely, I will.

Off to make a WalMart (MalWart) run!

I was offline on July 24th but that certainly is a date I will never forget and I'm glad so many of us were able to share our feelings during that difficult time. It is hard to believe that it has been 3 years since Dan went to be with the Lord. I play his music daily, whether it be with America, solo music, PEACE or The Endorphins. I treasure my autographed copy of "An America Band". The world is a better place for Dan having been here, we are Blessed to be touched by him in so many ways. My thoughts to Catherine, the entire Peek family and all his fans. Blessings...

S - It's not clear to me so I'll ask: Are you thinking I'm saying for you to find codes as Codesearcher Matthew is doing? I just thought you might be interested in viewing some of his 100+ videos he has posted on YouTube. His findings are incredible, imo. That's all I'm doing myself as I don't have the software nor know-how to do what he does. By the way, I would not want to be a pig. LOL

Good Morning KoG! Naw, I don't wanna be a pig either, or a GOAT! Just the simple bleatings of a dumb SHEEP!

Of course, I thought you were telling me to delve into Matthew's theories! I always assume that people want me to get involved in this and that. That's why I thought I'd let you know the status of my mental capabilities??? And to discover some of these codes on my own? Ha!

Bummer! I can't tell how much is clouds and how much is smoke from forest fires. But we are quite gray today. No swimming, from the forecast - for the next couple of days. The season is so limited that I get quite greedy for the water, "while the sun shines."

Have you been to any good concerts this year? It's a terrible thing to attend an America concert, because then you don't tolerate anything less than. But I'm happy to have had the privilege of attending 2 this year and will get in one more in October. Their music is so rich, but to see them in person is over the top!

Re: It's the 24th July Down Under

S - Regarding if I've attended any good concerts, well yes, good in my opinion, but I'm a country music fan (as you probably remember) so Alan Jackson performing locally was very enjoyable.

It's county fair time this week which means some performances for just the price of fair admission - a "whopping" $5! I didn't go though this past Saturday. There was a double-header with two 80's bands, Night Ranger and 38 Special. I like the latter and should have gone, but I decided to chill at home. The Christian band Mercy Me is performing this Wednesday followed by three country music performers on Thursday, Friday and Saturday...Joe Nichols, Dwight Yoakam and the Eli Young Band. I will probably go to see the first two.

So you've been to two America concerts. Very good! Well, that's half of the total number of times I've ever seen them inspite of being a huge fan of theirs from the past. I am totally shocked how a large number of fans have seen them as many as 30 times or more. I think it was Robyn who said under the "Willie Leacox" subject title of the America-side of this site, America's performance is quite routine these days so something special would have to happen before I would be drawn out to a concert of theirs. Maybe something like what they did in the past - a Christmas special or a double-header with someone I like.

Oh, remember you and I chatting about some people from my home town who have had some fame - most quite fleeting, however. I forgot one in particular. She's quite a character to say the least. You may have seen her on the X-Factor a couple of years ago if you watched the show back then. Here is a mention of her online plus her performance on the X-Factor back in 2012. As I said, she's a character:

Ha! KoG, it's county fair time here later this week also! I'll be thinking about you Friday. YAY, Senior Citizen Day and I get in for FREE! The advantage of age. I haven't checked out their website yet to see if they're charging to park in the dirt and weeds again this year. That annoys me. I'm looking forward to eating delicious Thai food, which the State Fair flopped on. They had it, it just wasn't "delicious."

I saw the lineup for concerts and never heard of any of the acts. I'm not one to stick my neck out and pay $20 bucks or whatever, for unknowns. So I'll pass. But I'll be sure to check out the home economics exhibits, the photography exhibits, the arts & crafts exhibits, see if there's anybody I know in the commercial buildings and pet as many animals as I can get my grubby little hands on! Despite our heavy overcast and cool temps today with rain predicted later, it's supposed to soar back up to 95 later in the week. So, I'll do what I can, probably attend in the evening.

I checked out Panda Ross, but after last night's storm, nothing wants to load fast. I'll try later. I love her explanation of how she got her name!

If I'd stuck with America all these years, believe me, I'd have a whole lot more concerts under my belt! If you read my review of the May 24th Tahoe shoe, you saw where I was seated (up against the stage right in front of Gerry's keyboard, yay!) at a table with 3 generations of people. One of the men had attended 46 America concerts, I think it was! Amazing and wonderful!

I understand Robyn's point of view, however. My income is pathetic. So it's a huge sacrifice for me to go to these shindigs. The State Fair was by FAR the cheapest for me, despite 4 hours driving each way. And IF I'd stayed with America all these years, I'd probably be bored with the same songs and the same patter. I know they're trying to broaden their already large fan base. And they've now got 2 new guys who are scrambling to learn or perfect the standard concert material. Bill's been with them long enough. He's ready to learn more songs, but Ryland isn't. I'm thinkin' Mr. Beckley and Mr. Bunnell are gonna have to break down and REHEARSE, so they can spiff up some of their incredible "obscure album cuts" and give Bill and Ryland the chance to learn them also. As for patter, YOU GUYS have so many stories to tell - about the songs or your 44 years of adventures, come on, give us some new patter!!!

That's my needling for now! I'm so new at America's concerts I can content myself awhile longer with the same old songs. And I'm not discounting the fact that they are incredible songs. I can find something new to discover with each one, and I like that. But I will admit that I was hoping for a train song at the State Fair. With the big railroad museum in Old Town Sacramento, it would've been a perfect opportunity to insert one of those incredible songs into the setlist. With Ryland just coming onboard, that wasn't feasible.

So, KoG, be sure to tell us about your fair experiences and include the music you hear. I hope the weather's cooler for you, too!

It's FAIR DAY! Yay! So, KoG, did you go and what did you think of the music? We have free entertainment on one of the stages. One year our fair had an incredibly good CW band. I forget the name. Something to do with pistols, as I recall. A couple years later they returned, but they weren't the same. One guy left and his replacement just didn't have it, vocally. The group chemistry was gone.

I finally listened to Panda's XFactor performance. Not bad, after just getting over pneumonia. I listened to a couple of other songs she sang in a church, and I decided she doesn't have the same dynamism as Mahalia Jackson, for example. Also, she has intonation problems. She sings sharp and that, substantially! Nevertheless, she has quite a personality and that probably makes up for some of her vocal weaknesses.

Henk and I, under "Remember the Message..." on the other board, are having a discussion about the blues. I spent HOURS yesterday listening to blues and gospel music. When I can categorize songs into groupings, I will upload some over there. You might enjoy listening. I told Henk he needs to come up with a new name for the thread and start it. The above-mentioned one is getting too long. Anyhow, it will be a good musicology exercise for me. Because I'm just stabbing and poking, I'm sure I'll make some stupid mistakes. That's part of learning!

Well, Bluey so it is! I was thinking about you, your wife and Jack this morning. Are you still braving the elements for your morning walks with Jack? Our weather has cooled down again this week. We HAD some nice, hot temps and I resumed swimming, which made me quite happy. The weather is like a yo-yo!

Now it's 4 years since Dan went Home. Last night I finished reading "Our Day in the Sun" for the 2nd time. I fear wild horses couldn't drag me into living in the tropics! After what he and Catherine went through...

Since you posted Dan's song, "Everything," I've been pondering the words. That song just says it all! I wonder what songs he's writing now???

Good Morning, Bluey! At least it's still morning here!

Many times when you or Henk upload a video, I listen to other things the same YouTube poster has collected. So I stumbled across this song by another Aussie, Darlene Zschech, from Hillsongs in Sydney! With a surname like that, she's gotta be Polish, come to think of it! My rule is: if it's got 4 or more consonants together, it's Polish.

Anyhow, "Everything" and "The Potter's Hand," both remind me of what I've been chewing on the last couple of days, Psalm 19:1-4a, "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows and proclaims His handiwork. Day after day pours forth speech, and night after night shows forth knowledge. There is no speech nor spoken word (from the stars); their voice is not heard. yet their voice (in evidence) goes out through all the earth, their sayings to the end of the world..."

I tie all that in with Gerry's lyrics on "One Horse Town, 'Full moon shine bright, light up my way through the night'." Then there's "Hope, 'There's a light shining bright beyond the southern cross, burning bright for everyone of us who's lost'." Add on, "Sheltering Sky, 'It's a long, long way from here to there, silent shadows over the dateline, we both stare at the same blue moon, under the sheltering sky'."

I ask myself, "What's the message that's going forth right now, during these interesting days? What is my response?" Dan knows and I picture him nodding his head!

In belated remembrance of Dan who always made his fans feel special. He's having a grand time in heaven. Get ready, all! Jesus is coming very, very soon...

Hey KoG, you may be late, but you came up with a whiz-bang song! They have quite a number of cool songs in French, but in listening, I thought their French accent was "goofy." So I snooped and learned they are from Quebec! Je suis desolee, mais...

I like the message of the song. And if you "adapt" Dan's lyrics on "Lonely People," a bit, you have:

"Don't give up until you drink from the silver cup,
HE'LL never take you down or never give you up,
You never know until you try."

Love it!
