By my saying, "going through the motions," I equate that, for instances, to those who may attend church every time the church doors are open, but they have never actually understood that their salvation comes from having made Jesus their personal Savior. They have been "going through the motions" thinking they somehow have "earned" salvation and do not understand that it's a free gift from God by simply accepting and believing in their hearts that Jesus took the punishment for their/our sins via the cross. They are the five foolish virgins in my opinion.
