If there's anyone interested in mentioning/discussing:

Besides America, of course, what musical performers from the 70s and 80s did you enjoy so much that you own(ed) every one of their LPs or CDs?

Mine from the 70s: Doobie Brothers, Eagles, Dan Fogelberg; Steely Dan, and John Denver.

Mine from the 80s: Hall and Oates (actually starting in the 70s), Squeeze, Toto, Crowded House, country artists Little Texas, Michael Martin Murphey (also actually starting in the 70s), Diamond Rio and Restless Heart.

Wow, too many to remember, but Dire Straits, Billy Joel, Jayhawks, Matthew Sweet, John Hiatt, Dan Peek, Steely Dan (before they got boring), Sheryl Crow, Old 97s, Tom Petty, REM.

I like a lot of other singers and groups,but the only ones I can think of right now that I own every LP and CD of besides America are ABBA (big fan since at least 1983),Phil Collins (big fan since 1984),and Genesis (big fan since 1986). In fact,my mother and I just saw Phil Collins live in concert on October 25th in Oakland,California,and I wrote and posted an 11-part story on Facebook about it,with photos,3 days ago. It was the 6th time we'd seen him in concert since 1990,and it was the 3rd to last US concert on his Not Dead Yet Live tour. Also,we've seen Genesis 2 times,in 1992 and 2007. :-)
I'm glad I discovered America! :-)

Thanks MUNIK, Cacilie and Jimnak for posting the other artists you listen to whose albums/CDs you have. I enjoyed reading about them.

Jimnak, I think you and I may be the only two here who own the two LPs of American Flyer. I can remember discovering them when I was searching for any new albums by America back in the 70s. A very interesting note is that Sir George Martin produced their LPs or at least the first one...maybe both? I haven't pulled them out to play in many years. Here's a link to "Lady Blue Eyes".

AMERICAN FLYER was the closest look and feel to AMERICA that I could find. And yes Sir George Martin also produced their 1st LP, sadly they disbanded after LP 2. Their album songs are rich in lyrical and melodic depth similar to AMERICA. Of course no one can match AMERICA fully.

One could somewhat say that American Flyer had a third release being that two of their members (Craig Fuller and Eric Kaz) released This LP after the disbanding of American Flyer. And, as you may know, Fuller and Kaz were members of Pure Prairie League. Kaz wrote This PPL Hit.

King - I agree with all your selections - maybe not JD but i don't really know much about him songs except for a few hits.. i do about Doobie Brothers, Eagles, Dan Fogelberg; Steely Dan.. for sure ... I saw the original Doobies recently...Tom Johnston especially sounded awesome... they were excellent...

Dave - For what it's worth, I got introduced to America and John Denver by my 11th grade English teacher (year 1972-1973). She had a record player in the classroom where she'd play America's first two LPs and John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High" LP for us during class. I'm guessing she was probably in her 50s back then. Anyway, I'd buy two of every America LP so I could play both sides on my record player as I'd lie down in bed before going to sleep. I had one of these players that you could stack a number of LPs on top of one another to let them automatically play. To this day, however, I don't have any of my John Denver albums (and don't regret it). I can't remember for sure what I did with them. I suspect I gave them all to my brother. I do still have all of my America albums though.

A few other artists that I have all of their albums are Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds; Russ Ballard; Bob Welch; and all but one of England Dan and John Ford Coley's. Oh yeah, Fools Gold although they only released two.

Have been thinking about this topic for a bit. I tend to look at it as having all the tracks rather than all the cds. I must confess that I haven't bought all the 'Greatest Hits' that appear. As was mentioned earlier, Gerry's past efforts are appearing at nonsense prices. My similar tastes
to America are Poco, Orleans and Firefall. Didn't they appear together on the most recent cruise? I would have loved Firefall The Reunion Live but that's at a 3 figure sum.....I resort to Spotify.
I wish Shasta was still with us.

Yes, Derrick...Poco, Orleans and Firefall. I have at least one album of each in my collection. Another band whose music I have that falls somewhat in the same genre is Little River Band. And, speaking of Poco, another artist whose music that I have most every solo album is that of Randy Meisner.

Regarding Shasta, yeah, I too, wish she were still with us but only if she still had her health. She was such a devout Christian that I know she is having a wonderful time in heaven and is reunited with her parents. When Shasta was still with us, I couldn't keep up with her personal message writing. She was such a prolific writer that it made me to be "one poor correspondent." Shasta's favorite musical group besides America as we may remember was the Kingston Trio. She was the age of Dewey and Gerry.

KofG - I will definitely download of JD.. Thanks...I would same i'll trade some albums/CDs with you but our collections are very similar... I do a ton of Fountains of Wayne, Robert Cray and Toad the Wet Sprocket..also a lot of Elton and some JT
