Harris, Michigan review
Posted on: 04/08/2018 09:23 AM

I took in the show last night at the Island Resort & Casino in Harris, Michigan. My first time seeing a show in at least 10-11 years, since the last time they played the same venue. The addition of the video screen back-drop was a nice touch to their show, which opened with "Miniature" as a collage of shots of the three original members played behind it. "Tin Man" was next, followed by "You Can Do Magic" and then "Daisy Jane." I think it was after that they followed with three straight songs from the first album: "Riverside", "I Need You" and "Here." The rest of the set list included "Don't Cross The River", "Driving", Eleanor Rigby, Monster, Cornwall Blank into Hollywood, Ventura Highway, Woman Tonight, California Dreaming, Green House, The Border, Only in Your Heart, Lonely People, Sandman, Sister Goldenhair, and Horse With No Name. Gerry singled out Dan Peek prior to performing "Lonely People", of which Dewey handled lead vocals. And anybody who liked Dan would have been pleased with how prominent he was featured in many of the clips on the video screen. Gerry and Dewey certainly gave a tip of the cap to the trio years. Vocally, Dewey was in fine form, pretty much what we've all come to expect. Gerry's voice seems to be a bit thinner these days, but he still sounded good. The backing unit of Rich, Ryland and Andy Barr are a tight knit unit and have injected some great energy into the band. No meet and greets, but I spoke with Ryland after the show as he was also working the merch booth with one of their other media guys. All in all, a great show with several "rarities" I just didn't expect. And again, the inclusion of the video screen really keeps the show interesting....

Thanks, Steve, for the review. Very enjoyable read. Wow, Monster, Driving and especially Green House! Very cool indeed. Reading this really gets me to want to go see a show soon. It’s been around three years years, guess it is about time.glad you had a great time. Take it easy my friend. DanC

Dan, they played two nights at the casino. I was out of town for the Friday show, otherwise I might have taken it in. But the set lists were identical for both nights. I met several ladies from the message boards who'd traveled as a group to come and see the shows for the weekend. If you were on Facebook, you'd be able to see one of the pics that we had taken. Crowds were great for both nights, and Gerry said as long as the people were still coming, they were going to keep playing. I hope it doesn't take me as long to get to another show...

Great review, Steve! I was hoping to post one myself but you summed it up so well. I've seen them a few more times than you in the last 10 years and I kinda lost track of all the changes that have occurred and the enhancements that they've made in that time frame. As long as they keep playing, I'll keep coming back to see them!
