Set List
Posted on: 10/18/2017 10:47 PM

Is anyone else frustrated by the stagnant set list? The hits are the hits and I don't expect them to change. On the other hand the ever present deeper cuts and covers make no sense to me. I have a hard time going out of my way to see the band these days.

I haven't seen an America concert in a couple of years so I am not familiar with the current set list. But this is a band with enough albums and enough songs that they should not only vary the set list but play longer.

I have tickets to see the guys next April which will be my first time seeing them in quite a few years. For me, it'll probably be like a seeing a "new" show as its been so long. That being said, I'm all for more variety, and would welcome charted songs like "Today's The Day" and "Right Before Your Eyes." They've gotta do the hits, there's no way around that. I'm excited for them to reappear here in Upper Michigan...

I was fortunate to be able to see three shows within fairly reasonable distance in N CA this year. It was the same set list in Pleasanton and Jackson . All the hits plus Driving, Monster and Greenhouse which I loved especially Greenhouse.

Oroville had the same set list except no Greenhouse and no Border. Talked to Andy who said they had to limit the list per the venue’s time slot. However I did not see any cross outs on the hard copy of the list. So I’m wondering if Gerry has multi versions saved on his laptop. This one might be the abbreviated extended set?

Eleanor Rigby came back from 2008 and is still in the set list at all three shows. Just wondering if Never Be Lonely could also come back to the set list again?

Is there a story behind Eleanor Rigby?

I assume they do Eleanor Rigby because it's the other Lonely People song.

I think America performs Eleanor Rigby as a tribute to George Martin, who worked with them on 7 of their albums, and is probably best known for working with The Beatles. I didn't know America had had that song in their concerts before, and I like it. I've only heard it at the last 2 America concerts I've been to,in Jackson,California on July 12th,and in Oroville,California on October 13th,but my mother and I have only seen them live in concert 6 times so far (2 in 2014,2 in 2016,and 2 this year). And Susanne's right, the Oroville concert didn't have the songs,The Border and Greenhouse, and there also wasn't Green Monkey, and I think all of those songs were performed at the Jackson concert on July 12th,which was the first time my mother and I saw them this year. :-)
I'm glad I discovered America! :-)

To me "Eleanor Rigby" is such a gloomy song. Personally, I'd prefer THIS SONG of the Beatles. Plus, it would be a tribute to GB's favorite Beatle who's the lead vocalist.

PS: The person who posted the song to YouTube didn't get the title exactly right...LOL

Or, This One from the movie, "A Hard Day's Night." I can remember seeing the movie at the local theater at the age of 8. Can clearly recall how very exciting it was (and how I lost and never found my 50-cent piece in the back seat of the taxi on the way to the show).
