DEWEY is a scholar, a gentleman and a statesman. He weaves a wondrous world of swirling visual word images all surrounded by the rich warmth of his smooth and warm guitar playing.
I bet most do not know that the tremendous underlying creativity in DEWEY is somewhat beneath the surface. His genius resides much deeper than we can imagine. Yes he records swirling word images of memorizing colors and visual imagery flowing thru space and time. That we know, but. He has quite a few songs whereby he has devised alternate tuning modes and then used some unconventional chord structures. The musicians would say he is using chord inversions. HORSE WITH NO NAME is the most readily available example. In fact he tours with a guitar that is used for HORSE and no other song. It is impossible to ever really replicate his exact tone because of this. You can play the proper chord name on a conventionally tuned guitar but you will never match his chord tone. I think there is a good example of RAINBOW SONG on the other web site where he is using an alternate tuning & chord inversion. OLD MAN TOOK and COMPANY also use alternate tunings. I am sure there are others. He used to drive Jimmy Calire crazy. Musicians will listen to the songs and they just can’t figure out how he does it. The genius of DEWEY BUNNELL, below the surface.
