Doer of the Word
Posted on: 10/28/2014 03:49 PM
The year is nearly over and I just realized that 2014 is the 30th anniversary of the release of Dan's "Doer of the Word" album.
The album and song were big hits on Christian radio stations. The song reached number 2 on the CCM singles charts. I recall hearing some other songs from the album on Christian radio, like "Power and Glory".
While it was a nice "comeback" album for Dan, it took him 5 years to release a follow-up to "All Things are Possible". This delay probably hurt his crossover chances. "All Things" crossed over to the Pop and AC charts, while "Doer" and all of Dan's subsequent releases were only hits on Christian stations. The 5 year delay killed the momentum he had from "All Things".
Dan said he really did not enjoy working with producer Chris Christian; that, combined with the issues he was dealing with from his America days probably caused the delay. I wonder how things might have been if he had managed to release his second album a year after the first? What might have been?
I actually like "Doer of the Word" better than "All Things". If you have the CD, break it out and give it a listen in honor of it's 30th anniversary.

Mark, Without question, "All Things Are Possible" and "Doer Of The Word" are Dan's two best solo albums. I prefer "All Things" over "Doer Of The Word", but both are outstanding. Hard to believe its an album celebrating its 30th anniversary--I'll have to break my copy out later!
