Oh, what fun this is! Gerry looks to be about 14. Dewey's trying to grow that mustache fast so he doesn't look 14. Dan's hair is relatively short, but he's trying to grow it long fast, so he looks cool.

Vocals are rough, in comparison with the demo that's floating out there on YouTube. Do you think those are their Yamahas that they purchased in England, before their first tour here???

Thank you for uploading this! More "baby" pictures!!!

And, oh dang, did you notice the title is misspelled???

Yes, I did indeed notice the error in the spelling. Sort of a combo between "Holiday" and "James Holladay." Shasta, thank goodness Americafan Mark is here with us because I don't think I could keep up with you on the America-side of the blog, LOL. I certainly could have a few years ago though.

If you're referring to the first portion of my last post, the person posting the video spelled it as "James Holliday."

"HOLL-" part of "Holladay" and "-IDAY" part of "Holiday."

O.K. now somebody has to larn me how to encircle part of a reply with that cute little yellow line - as a quote. Good Morning KoG!

I was referring to: "Shasta, thank goodness Americafan Mark is here with us because I don't think I could keep up with you on the America-side of the blog, LOL. I certainly could have a few years ago though."

My brain isn't any better this morning than it was last night. I'm naive, block-headed - and groggy at the moment. Gotta spell things out for me. Sorry.

Hi Shasta - The thread that you posted with the 3 theories is what I was thinking of. In earlier years, I would have tried to figure out what was the most likely theory. These days, my brain seems to work on "less complex" matters, LOL. As stated, I'm glad Americafan Mark responded to your message with which theory he believes is correct.

Oh, as far as using the quoting feature, simply click on the word "Quote" with the green circular arrow found underneath each posted message. It will quote the entire posting. Oh, well, yeah, duh. I was so busy trying to one of these commands at the TOP of the "Body" box into a quote command, that I forgot to look at the bottom! I am really out to lunch. Hopefully will be better tomorrow. But I'm going to our county fair! Time to pet pigs' snouts, sheep's wool, goats' horns, beef rump roast, oogle at the quilts, paintings and photos, and eat Thai food!

As for the "mature" brain: What I notice is that there are days when I simply short out. I can go so far through logical steps and then it's over. I'm becoming ADHD or something! And there are times when common names simply escape me. That is very frustrating!

At our county fair tonight, country music star Sara Evans performs followed by Josh Turner on Saturday. Hope you have lots of fun at yours!

So, are you going, KoG - to see the performances? Talked to a gal last night at baseball. She's in an all-female band and they competed in the "battle of the bands," Wednesday night, tying for 3rd place. BUT, they were asked to open for Merle Haggard, I guess Saturday night. She's very thrilled. I shan't be there, as I'm saving my pennies to see America - when they shall grace Northern California with their presence!!!

When I get home from the fair this afternoon, I'll see what mischief I can get into digging in the archives, or whatever. Ellen

P.S. Jeepers, I left out a verb last night. The other most interesting thing I've learned about the "mature" brain is that if I think it, it's done, whether I've actually done it or not!

shasta So, are you going, KoG - to see the performances?

Hi Shasta - I thought about going but was undecided until the last few hours before the show. For only a $7 admission fee, it allows access to all the fair's activities including the rodeo and the concert that follows. Being a country music fan but not that much of a Sara Evans fan, I was leaning towards not going. However, I thought she might possibly do a meet & greet after the show. Having purchased a 60s old mandolin some years ago, I started collecting the autographs of country artists from shows that I have attended. I thought it would be nice to have SE's autograph on it as she's a very popular country artist. Her autograph would be #6. Anyway, I did attend; it was a good show and held outdoor on a gorgeous night (well, as gorgeous as it gets at a county fair with the smell of sheep, pig, horse and cow manure present in the air).

During what I thought would be the last of Sara Evans' two encore songs, I headed for the back of the stage in hopes of getting an opportunity to stick out the mandolin in one hand and a black Sharpie in the other as she stepped off the stage. A number of others fans appeared to have the same idea with their ticket stubs and pieces of paper in hand. I asked who appeared to be a female staff member of the band if Ms. Evans should be signing autographs. She, to my disappoinment, said SE was actually not feeling well tonight and would not be. I'm not sure if that was actually true or just an excuse. Anyway, I said to one of the fans standing next to me but on the other side of a rope line how disappointing that is. He informed me that he and the person he was with (his wife)and a group of others would be meeting Ms. Evans as they and the others had each won a radio contest held during the week leading up to the concert. I said to him that he looked familiar to me after which I introduced myself. His wife said, "I know you, Johnny. I'm Hugo's youngest sister." Hugo was my best friend in high school. I had not seen his sister Cindy in about 15 years. Well, as you may have figured, she accepted my mandolin and was willing to have it signed for me. After the group waited for about 30 minutes following the end of the show, Sara Evans appeared and posed for a photo with each contest winner. The photos were taken by one of her staff members. The fans were told that the photos would appear on SE's website. When it was Cindy's turn, I watched with delight as Ms. Evans signed the mandolin. Afterwards, I told Cindy that I owed her big-time. She in jest replied, "Yes, you do!"

I'm not sure if I'll be attending Josh Turner's show tonight. I'll decide as 9:30 pm winds closer. Friends of mine who attended last year's fair concerts said both artists stayed until the very last fan was greeted. The two country artists were Chris Young and Easton Corbin; both are very popular with country music fans.

Hi KoG. Glad you enjoyed last night's performance. I checked her tour schedule. You must be in New Mexico, no? I enjoyed our fair, except they are now charging to park in the dirt. Grrrrr. Quilts were uninteresting. In fact the whole home ec. building was. Photos were stunning and I saw some neat arts & crafts. I petted lots of goats and they were most responsive! No brown Swiss cows this year! Sob, sob. Came home with a free flyswatter, which is fortuitous, 'cuzz mine broke last year. While eating Thai food for lunch, I remarked to myself that it was kinda nice to smell all that manure! Reminds me of Switzerland. Never saw such a clean country and people and smelled such a stinky place! They spray horse manure on their fields, and oolala!

I've been disconnected with the country music scene for a number of years. But we have major agricultural areas here and so we only get country music at the fair. As I recall, they've had Ray Stevens, Merle Haggard, Ronnie Milsap and either the Statler Brothers or the Gatlin Brothers, in years gone by. I'd pay to hear any of them except Merle Haggard. He's good, but not good enough to pay for.

I wore myself out, between the fair and a WalMart run afterwards. Just not feeling well this week. So today will be a do-as-little-as-possible day and recover, hopefully. However, I should be up to some mischief this afternoon, on the internet. Last night I reviewed old America tv interviews. Interesting to review them, and old magazine articles and Dan's book and the comprehensive history, in comparison with Parts I and II of that new Houston interview with Dewey. I'll shoot off my mouth about that, over "there."

Yes, Shasta, New Mexico it is. A free flyswatter, huh? Such a lucky girl! LOL

Glad to hear we survived our respective fairs. I think I'm averaging about one visit per 20 years. Don't know if I can handle two county fair attendances so soon. It might be rough. I'll just have to deal with it if I do.

Hello KoG. Oh! I love the fair. I led a deprived childhood, you see. My parents took me to the fair once. Never went to our local July 4th celebration either until I was deemed old enough to take myself - walking distance. I always saw the fireworks, however, because we could see them from the back yard! We spent time deer hunting, fishing, gardening (and dealing with the produce) and watching WAY too much TV.

But when I've nannied kids, I've taken them to every event/activity I could get my hands on: the fair, July 4th, hiking, skiing, swimming, bicycling, camping, amusement parks, zoos/animal parks and NO TV! This is why I'm so blasted hyper, I'm sure! I was very placid as a child.

I'm very pleased with my new flyswatter as I had a fly in the house 2 weeks ago and couldn't find my old one. Forgot that it broke and I threw it away last year. I also came home with 2 packs of sugarless gum - that I didn't want! I could've probably won a bucket to recycle automotive oil in. But I don't change my oil anymore. I used to, and the filter and air filter and rotate the tires myself. I changed the sparkplug on the lawnmower once - maybe 25 years ago!

Shasta - I did decide to go to the Josh Turner concert at the fair last night. It was a very good show. Unfortunately, JT blasted out of there after his performance like one of those broncs busting out of one of the shoot stalls, therefore, no autograph #7 on the old mandolin.

Sounds like you were a great nanny to those kids you cared for. They were lucky to have you! In your comment that you no longer change the oil on your vehicle, I assume you mean that you no longer change the oil yourself. Hate to think you don't change it, period. LOL

Wow, KoG! You're becoming a fair regular!!! Too bad you didn't get an autograph. Maybe you need to save the space for somebody more important.

Yes, indeed, I do have the oil changed in my car - twice a year, whether it needs it or not. Have learned that when I have the studded tires put on or taken off, I get faster service if I have the oil changed at the same time! So that's what I do. However, I live in the city limits and my "game" is to see how much I DON'T drive. I'll walk whenever possible. So I don't put much mileage on my car, except during baseball season!

Shasta - I did find out that Sara Evans was indeed ill. Almost to the point of having to cancel. Also learned that her staff called in for a local physician to see her because she was feeling so sick. So, I feel very lucky to her her autograph on the mandolin in light of finding out that bit of information.

Not sure when the next opportunity will present itself for another autograph. The really big acts just don't make themselves available to the fans. The following two have appeared in my home town in the past 12 months but are impossible to get near: Wynonna Judd and Trace Adkins. Rick Springfield was here several months ago but he was of no interest to me plus autographs on the mandolin are reserved for country artists. I need to get a small-sized guitar for autographs from rock/pop performers.

Hello KoG. I haven't disappeared off the planet. Just been busy. Thought I'd clean up some loose ends and came across this thread. I love the name of Josh Turner's band! My, but doesn't he break with the traditional country star image - and his band also? After listening to so much America with their relatively high voices, this was a funny change. Josh Turner has a deep voice!

Yes, Shasta, JT does have a deep voice. His voice reminds me a lot of the deepness of Randy Travis' voice. Neither artist is anyone whose music I would purchase though. Interesting thing about his female keyboardist - she's his wife!

Ha! Well good for them. They hopefully keep each other out of mischief while on the road!

I was surprised to see no cowboy hats, no big belt buckles, no cowboy shirts, and did anybody have on cowboy boots? Dewey, I think, wears cowboy boots. I don't know how anybody can stand in those things for any length of time!
