Dan Peek RIP
Posted on: 07/25/2011 08:39 AM

It is with tremendous sadness that I must inform you that Dan has passed away. His wife, Catherine, discovered him, lifeless in his bed, at about 11:30 PM, last night (July 24). More details, including funeral arrangements, will be forthcoming as his family determines them. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

Talk about a blow to the stomach upon recieving this news today. I had been in regular contact with Dan dating back to last years Goldmine interview, the most recent of the interviews he had granted me over the years. I found him to be a very kind-hearted man, always gracious about me keeping the name "America" and "Dan Peek" in the news as best I could--either by my roles as a writer or broadcaster. My heartfelt condolences to his family. He was a friend of mine, but as a fan, I know I speak for all of us here who now share this tremendous loss.

I am in complete shock and sadness. If it didn't come from you, Steve I would never have believed it but a sick joke. I still can't beleive it! I was so hoping he could be honored with Gerry and Dewey someday at the Hollywood Walk of Fame or the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. I hope now he has found the presence of God he so longed for in his earthly life. My deepest condolences to Catherine, Tom, and the entire Peek family.

Erin just sent me this which will also be posted on the VH.com website:

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dan Peek yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Peek family.

"I am so sorry to learn of Dan’s passing. Dan, along with Gerry & myself, formed the band “America” as teenagers after being great friends in high school during the late 60’s. It was a joyous time for the three of us, full of excitement and laughter. We created lasting music together and experienced a life that we could never have imagined. Dan was an equal and integral part of that early history, and I have never forgotten the good times we spent making that music and learning about life together. Although we eventually went our separate ways, his contributions to the music of “America” have always been present and will last forever. This news brings great sadness. My sincere condolences go out to his wife, Catherine, and the entire Peek family. May Dan rest in peace, and his memory be cherished forever." -Dewey Bunnell

"I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Dans passing. He was a dear friend for many years. Dan & his music will live on in the great songs he shared with us all. My sincere condolences go out to Catherine and the entire Peek family. May he rest in peace...."

This is quite a shock, and my heart aches for Catherine and Dan's family and close friends who will miss him here. Dan is singing and playing with the best choir ever now. May God give comfort to those he has left behind. We fans will cherish our memories of Dan and his music, but Dan is singing A New Song now.

Thanks Dan for teaching us that all things are possible ... you touched our hearts, you wrote the rhymes that our hearts can read.

Thinking that life has passed them by
Don't give up until you drink from the silver cup
And ride that highway in the sky

... ride on, the dark horse, the one that got away.

As we continue to grieve this loss, news is filtering out to the media. It is a most difficult time for family, loved ones, and friends to also have to deal with paparazzi, too. Quiet remembrances are appreciated, though. Here is a nice one just posted online by The Morton Report from contributor Jaan Uhelszki.

Here's an FYI for you. Several weeks ago, I had put Dan in contact with a friend of mine named Randy Patterson, who runs a website called "boomercity.com" He specializes in interviewing classic acts, and Dan had been on his "wish list." Dan was always happy to oblige with things like that. The interview was conducted over two phone calls, and Randy is now in the process of transcribing the recorded audio. As soon as it is available, I will provide a link for all here to enjoy. It would appear that this will turn out as the last Dan Peek interview.

Musically, if you haven't had a chance to check out Dan's vocals on the song "Kiss Me On The Waves" From his friend Guillermo's album, you're missing a real gem.

As for the Billboard.com report about Dan possibly being a part of the presentation of the group recieving a star on the Hollywood walk of fame...I have a feeling that something like that was actually being considered...

I'm shocked and stunned to hear of Dan's death, he was too young! The only blessing is that he did not suffer long and painful illness. I know what a shock and loss it must have been for his family, my heart goes out to them! RIP Dan.

Yes having faith as strong as Dan did is amazing. My dad had a great faith and one of the last things he told me was I'm fine, the Good Lord is ready to take me,,,,take care of mom

For me it all began with "Rainy Day", his America years, followed by his extraordinary solo debut - "All Things Are Possible" and other solo releases. His recent vocals on "Kiss Me On The Waves" was incredible. He still had the magic.

For more than 40 years, Dan and his music was, and will continue to be, a great companion. I'm going to miss his posts and emails immensely.

To Catherine, Tom, family and friends, my deepest sympathy. Words can't describe the sadness I feel for you.

I once told Dan that this song was one my favourites. He thanked me.

Thank You Dan
Posted on: 07/27/2011 12:20 PM

Somehow I did not learn of Dan passing until an hour ago, moments before I walked into a meeting at work.

I shared briefly with my coworkers in the meeting about the sad news. They are in their 30s and 40s, but they all knew who America is and immediately recognized the song when I sang the first line: "This is for all the lonely people..."
I am stunned and speechless.

Here are some memories I have of Dan:

- Dan is the first person to enter a comment on my first youtube video, of my America tribute song, "From London to LA". This was around four years ago.
- Shortly afterwards I ordered Dan's book about the band from his web site. He remembered my video and signed the book as follows: "Dear Al and Sam, I loved your song 'From London to LA'. Sam you have a great voice!" ‘Sam’ is my daughter Samantha, who sings the song.
- Around a year ago I posted myself singing "Rainy Day" on youtube. Again, Dan posted a very nice comment.
- I have posted around 20 times on Dan's blog. He responded to every one of my posts - as he always did for everyone who posted. I always appreciated and respected that about Dan.
- Once when I posted about how I self-published a book, Dan's brother Tom (or Dan disguised at Tom - which I can understand) emailed me to ask how I went about self-publishing. I responded. It is possible that this was the method he used to publish his most-recent book, "Our Day in the Sun."
- A few years ago my boss shared that he was planning to vacation on Cayman Island. I thought of Dan and reflexively said, "I have a buddy who lives on Cayman Island." I realized I had just "dropped" Dan's name, but I continued. "My buddy is Dan Peek, co-founder of America." My boss is a big America fan and is in awe that I “know” Dan. I felt a bit guilty about dropping Dan's name, so I posted on his site about it. Dan was amused and graciously told me to call him my friend any time.
- I sent Dan around ten emails over the past four years about various things going on with my music or Sam's music. Most of these emails ended with "Dan there's no need for you to reply." Half the time Dan or his brother Tom did graciously reply.
- I always appreciated Dan's courage in admitting his own shortcomings, and it inspired me to more-bravely face my many shortcomings. We're all only human.
- I have the deepest respect for Dan's spirituality, which he wore proudly as a badge. Again, this inspires me to share my own spiritual take on this crazy world.
- As I've posted many times, America inspired me to learn to play guitar and sing. Without Dan, there would have been no America, and I might never have played music, something I dread to even imagine.
- Dan had strong political views which he openly shared, and he was a true lover of our planet and environmentalist. I respect his engagement. He cared.

Dan, thanks for your beautiful music, spontaneity, sense of humor, hard work, openness, and caring.

Above all, thank you Dan for taking the time to listen, respond, and really be anyone’s friend. I know all of your gestures of friendship were genuine. From now on, I will honor you by never hesitating to say 'Dan Peek is my friend.'

OMG................I just found out about it this morning:(
I've been away from the phone and internet since being out of town since Saturday.
I am totally utterly devistated about this.
I have not cried this much since my last dear friend passed away.

I became so close with Dan this past two years that he and Catherine were like family to me,
I've been working on a video for him for one of his songs and I am saddened that he will now never be able to see the finished project.

If it is ok with everyone I'd like to post it here when finished which should be for Christmas time.
The boys signed all of those promo posters last July and Dan competed them for me and I could never find the right person for the gulf spill to trust the money with so I never auctioned them off.
Since that situation is under control I still would like to sell them and donated the profits to a worthy cause. Even if it's to help Catherine or Dan's church or something to help a situation in need.

In the days to come I will post all the letters he personally wrote me here and I will release the version of "Today's the Day" that he told me he really loved. I wasn't impressed with my voice and even though he praised it so much I still never realesed it for more then a day.
I sent it to him for his approval and he just loved it. He probably would have put it on his site but it's too late now:(

I want to again appologize to all for not being here as the recent times have passed. I was saddened about Andrew Gold passing and equally excited about The boys soon to be star on the walk of fame
but I'll tell you the God's honest truth. My time has been spent with personel issues and talking to Dan about reuniting with the boys. We talked about it alot.
In one letter he told me a quick summery about his life and he quoted " "as the clock winds down and the years add up" but I never thought it would be this soon after he said it that he'd be gone.

In conclussion I want to give my deepest condolences to Catherine, Tom and the rest of the Peek family.
I'm as sad as I've been in a long time.
I made a picture for Dan and Catherine for Christmas last year that if it's ok I'd finaly like to share it with the family here.

It's my little homemade idea/company called " Letters 2 You" where I take the person or persons personal interests and combine those interests into pictures that make out the letters of their names.
Dan was at a loss of words when it arrived on Christmas eve and it filled my heart knowing I made someone happy from something I cre8ed.

I just want to say I've missed you all and always remember..tell someone you love them even if things are not going well...you may not get that chance tomorrow.

...and I love ya;)

peace

Steve - So sorry you just heard. My heart is still breaking too. I always dreaded this day to come. I hope gerry and dewey will write a song in memory of their friendship with Dan.

What a great piece of art you gave Dan and Catherine! I love the work you put into it. I would love to read your correspondences with Dan! I found his writings on his blog to be down to earth and pretty funny at times! Wish I could have met him! Bring on whatever you have about Dan!

Being an America fan throughout their careers, it saddens me to learn of Dan's passing. This is just another reminder of how short life is & how we should live life without regrets. It is interesting to read that Dan had opened the door to a possible America reunion & stating it was up to Gerry & Dewey if that would occur.

There are so many songs of his I appreciate. America got me into playing guitar. My favorite song to play has always been Old Virginia.

so many wonderful comments and memories shared here... I am thankful for a place to share with fellow fans and just wish I had found the site many years sooner.

Al, thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with Dan, Steven, I always admired your covers and your America collection. Your video and now this artwork dedicated to Dan & Catherine are very special. Ghostwolf, I am sorry for your loss. Indeed, it is a sad time for all of us, but my heart goes out to you especially.

Again, I would like to thank Rich for maintaining the blog and keeping it open for us to share thoughts, good or bad. And, particularly, I want to thank Steve for the magnificent archives, for keeping us informed, and for maintaining the memories. Forty years is a long time, and Steve has created an America time capsule.

We are such lucky fans...

One final thought: out of respect to Dan and for his contributions, with recognition that the first ten years were America in its truest sense, might we put past conflicts aside and bring the threads from the Dan Peek Fan Blog blog over and unify the site?

Thank you Cat....thank you..it was the one request that I've had all along and the sole reason I kinda stayed away...I rarely ask anyone for anything it's much more rewarding for me to give.
But it's a shame it has to come to this to bring a family together and realize that if we are not one what really are we?

...can Dan finally come home where he belongs?
Right here with the rest of the family.

Ghostwolf I'm in hopes you can heal as well and my heart feels for you deeply. Even though you were separated from him you still showed how precious your heart is to give him praise here and not let whatever separated your life with him go unnoticed in the end.

The same with Dan

Steven,
Bless your heart. I'ts great to have you back. I didn't know about your project. It's really something.

I'm looking forward to reading the letters between you and Dan. It's generous of you to share. It appears you formed a meaningful relationship with he and Catherine and I'm glad you had that opportunity.

I'm sorry you lost your friend Dan. As famous as he was, he was rarely afraid to let folks in.

Loosing him has been like a kick in the chest and it still hurts.

Go to your FB page if and when you can. There's something for you.

My heart broke when I went to Dan's website to see what he had posted recently. Dan had become a new acquaintance over the past year. He lent his tune "Train Comin" for a political purpose. The dialogue that went back and forth was neat. I really appreciated his HUMANNESS.

He declined an invitation to perform at a well publicized event because he was ill. I didn't think twice about it, he never complained.

Dan lived a life of purpose and was a true testament to grace and overcoming obstacles. Although I can't say I knew him, I'm really saddened. Our loss is certainly Heaven's gain.

We are in Farmington - Does anyone want to get together?
Posted on: 07/31/2011 08:49 AM

My sister Sylvia and I are in Farmington, Missouri, the location of the wake and funeral. We arrived last night. I thought this was going to be a sleepy little town. Wrong. It has a large commercial/shopping area and plenty of hotels and restaurants. Last night it was bustling. Wikipedia says the population is 16,000 and it is the county seat.

We are staying at the Holiday Inn.

If anyone wants to get together, email me at amora@nisource.com. Please limit our use of this email address. It is my work email address. I had trouble checking personal emails with my blackberry last night, so I'm using my work email today.

I hope we get to see some of you.

"Ain't" it "funny" how words come back to haunt us. I think it is time to stop mourning Dan's death and start celebrating Dan's life. Cherish each moment and tell someone that you love them today.

Preliminary Autopsy Report: Dan Peek Died of Fibrinous
Pericarditis
July 29, 2011

A preliminary autopsy report indicates that Dan Peek died as a result of Fibrinous Pericarditis, which is inflammation of the pericardium, the sac covering the heart.

An autopsy was conducted on July 26, 2011, by Dr. Russell Deidiker at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center in Farmington.

The results from standard toxicological and microscopic studies will be included in the final post-mortem report.

Peek, a founding member of the band America, was pronounced dead at his residence in Farmington on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at 11:23 p.m. He was 60 years old.

Update:
I just got off the phone with Catherine.
She wants to thank everyone for their support and has stated she still is not over the initial shock but she's coping as well as can be.

She said the band has other prior engagements and can not attend but called her to give their blessings and that was very sweet.
She also concluded that she will sort through pictures and video clips for me to complete which will now be Dan's last video/song release that they hired me to take full rein of and I couldn't be more honored.

Once completed I will post it here as an exclusive for all to enjoy.
I'm just sadden that for financial reasons I could not get there
but will be playing the 1st 7 albums in rotation loud enough for my neighbors to hear all day;)
and I have a feeling Dan wouldn't be asking me to turn it down;)

Take care all and say a small prayer if you find the time;)
loves

cre8ifsage Update:

Wow! Great honor Steve! Wish I could just hug Catherine. I can only imagine the pain she is going thru. Too bad Gerry and Dewey could not be at his funeral. If I had the money, I'd be there too. I'm sure there will be a line out the door of people wanting to express their love and sympathies. Take care, Steve. Georgie

Joy Cat and Steven...Count me in with you, it would be the perfect time for Dan's "Homecoming" to this side of the blog thus unifying the site (as it was before).

Joy

Ditto of course. It should have been avoided.

I won't "shoot the webmater. He's doing the best he can".
However, I've seen more positive resolutions, judgement in something
where there was no fault, just deep feelings.

Frankly? I now believe he should have his own page. I'll continue to write about him here and take my chances. " )

Blessings to Dan's Family and Friends,

O

Steven,

I'm overwhelmed. I'm happy for you that you would be given
such an honor. It's like having an honor from America, i.e. Dewey & Gerry. I don't consider it any less. Dan, with his humble nature, probably would.

A little prayer? How about a BIG one? There are tons of folks of different religions praying for Dan's family, friends and fans. Plese rest assured that you are covered in your loss and this wonderful Ventura(e) Highway.

P.S. I wonder what Dan's doing right now. Hmmm...

Love,

O

I just hope he's not going to go as far as betting on his Rams.

Al, I'm so glad you and your sister could be there. My heart is heavy this afternoon, but it does make me feel better that we fans are being well represented.

Steven, thank you for updating us. Please give our heart's best to Catherine. We really look forward to your future sharing of Dan's remembrances with us.

Let's continue to remember the family. The funeral is only the start of the grief process, and once the clamor subsides the reality sets in...

Our Visit to See Dan
Posted on: 08/01/2011 06:49 PM

My sister Sylvia and I attended Dan's wake yesterday from 2:00PM to 4:00PM.

We embarked on the six hour drive from Chicago on Saturday afternoon. We sang along to America music as we drove through the corn fields of Illinois. I told Sylvia the America story from start to finish based on what I know from reading Dan’s book and my being a (very tiny) part of the America family.

We passed through St. Louis, and shared a special memory of the great Arch. In 1964, Dad drove the family through St. Louis on the way to Mexico. The Arch was in its final phase of construction, with only the tip missing. On the way home a month later, the Arch was completed.

We made our way on U.S. 67 from St. Louis to Farmington. We stayed at the Holiday Inn. Comfortable.

Sunday morning I sat around playing all the Dan Peek songs I could remember, and worked on an original song I’ve been writing for a few months now, named, America. Seriously. Sylvia sang along and gave me some ideas for lyrics.

We dressed and stepped out to a typical blazing Missouri summer day. We had lunch and headed for the funeral home, five minutes away.

The short drive took us through the old downtown section of Farmington, populated by the police station, court house, government buildings, churches, a large music store, and many older, but well-kept brick homes. Large lawns and leafy trees. Farmington is the seat of St. Francois county. From hotel row to old downtown, it is a little gem of the Midwest.

We turned a corner and saw the funeral home sign with Dan's name on it. We had made it.

The building is cheerful and clean on the outside, with columns in front and large windows. It must have been a large, elegant private home before it became a funeral home.

As we walked in, we entered a wide hallway running to the back of the house, with a visitation room on either side. The room on the left was filled with activity and the room on the right was empty. So I took a breath, realizing Dan was resting in the room on the left. A line of 25 people had already filled the hallway and was growing fast. As we reached the entrance to the visitation room, we made a sharp-right turn and could see Dan resting at the far end of the room. We signed the guest book and waited for our turn to visit with Dan.

Dan’s father Milton Peek sat prominently in the center of the visitation room, facing the line. You could not miss the resemblance between father and son. A very tall man whom I got the impression is a spiritual leader kneeled next to Mr. Peek, consoling him. A number of people were waiting to speak with Mr. Peek, and they patiently waited for this man to finish. Mr. Peek had a slight smile, nodded and responded frequently, in a clear, intelligent voice. Mr. Peek set a tone of quiet cheerfulness that filled the room. Strong.

We stepped up to visit Dan. He looked in perfect health. His face glowed in the sunshine coming in through the large windows. I thought: ‘Thanks for the great music and friendship, Dan. You lived life to the full.’

Catherine stood next to the casket, with clasped hands and a determined smile. She is as beautiful as ever. She wore a simple dress, and sported blonde hair in a simple, straight, young (so Sylvia tells me) hairstyle. Sylvia and I explained to Catherine that we came from Chicago, and that Dan and America inspired me to start playing music. I told her that her musical partnership and marriage with Dan are also an inspiration. She said, "That's sweet. We were joined at the hip." She has a mild Southern accent. She thanked us for making the trip.

We then moved near Mr. Peek in hopes of getting a chance to speak with him. An increasing number of people gathered around him, so we walked around.

By now the funeral home was becoming full, with people spilled out to the second visitation room.

There were a number of beautiful flower arrangements placed about. The centerpiece was a large, magnificent arrangement with a variety of flowers including irises (one of the few flowers I can name), from Dewey and Gerry. It had a message expressing how Dan will be missed, and how he will live on through his music.

The visiting area where Dan rested had two large sections. Dan lay in the larger section, with rows of chairs surrounded by some sofas. Opposite Dan, at the front of the house, was a large second section, which had a large, elegant fireplace, and was probably once a library. The center of the library had sofas and chairs facing a wide screen TV playing a video, framed by the large paned windows that formed the front of the house.

To the right was set up a tribute to Dan's music. Dan’s America albums, Christian albums, and Gold and Platinum awards in glass cases were arranged around the fireplace and on the mantle.

We stood in the library shoulder-to-shoulder with others watching the video. It was a slide show of photos of Dan and Catherine, and photos of Dan with America and his Christian bands - with Dan Peek music as background.

We now walked around. Two other TVs were set up in different parts of the house. One TV played the same video that was playing in the library. The other TV played a video with mostly childhood and family photos, and included a number of photos of Dan and his brother Tom holding live turkeys. From the photos I gather it’s not easy to hold down a turkey, and harder yet to hold down several at a time.

Spread around the home were around 20 lovely original Dan Peek paintings. They were painted on thick pieces of wood, around eight by twelve inches in size. I recognized many of these from his stories on his web site about life on Grand Cayman with Catherine. Dan wrote the name of every painting on its back and signed it in ink pen.

The funeral home had a nice mix of new and antique furnishings, and photos and paintings from last century. There is an antique piano and an antique organ. The highlight of the home is its four large, elegant, antique grandfather clocks in excellent condition – all of them running and set to correct time. Cozean (pronounced “co-zeen” by the employees) was the perfect setting for bidding Dan farewell.

It was finally time to go. We saw Catherine head to the back of the house. We found her in a large kitchen, seated with a group of people. Catherine saw us and stood. I handed her a card and gave her a small hug. I shared with the group at the table about Dan’s music inspiring me. I mentioned that Sylvia is a singer, and that she and I have performed lots of America music onstage together.

We said goodbye.

On the way home we played the nostalgia game, remembering life in the 1970s, when America filled the air, and we were so young.

Al...

A big Thank You from one of many fans that, I am sure, wished they could have been there to wish Dan a final farewell. As always, your descriptive words made me feel there and I read them through tears. After today, I hope the tears subside and I can remember Dan with a smile...I think that is what he would like. "Today's The Day" that Dan is laid to rest but he is already with the Lord. Once again, my thoughts and prayers to Catherine and the entire Peek family...

I'm sure Catherine appreciated the outpouring of support.

My Post About My Trip is Updated
Posted on: 08/02/2011 05:48 AM

Friends, I've added a number of details to my post above. It was a trip Sylvia and I will certainly never forget.

Our two living sisters, Espie (who saw the great St. Louis Arch with Sylvia and me in 1964) and Teresa (who was not yet born) sent me nice emails about my post. Our sister in Heaven, Lupita, is smiling and waiting for us. Thanks sissies. I love you more than more.

I wonder why the band couldn't make it--their next concert isn't until Aug. 5th, in RI, and their previous concert wasn't right before the funeral day? . . .

there are some commitments that are not listed on the website. Catherine graciously accepted their explanation. Some people have a hard time with funerals and just cannot attend. Whatever the reason, it is between Gerry and Dewey and the Peek family.

Yes, thanks Al for helping us to feel like we were there too showing love, comfort and support. Definitely was...in spirit.

D&G may have had prior commitments made already for those dates in between shows.

I have a really hard time at funerals, myself. I cry so much, even if I don't know the person and all. I know it's normal, but sometimes it's more than I'd like and I kind of feel uncomfortable. Can't help it...that's just me.

I was out of town last week and did not find out about this until I got back. What a shock. Very sad. My prayers are with his family, especially his Dad. Parents should not have to bury their children.

Dan is with the Lord now. God bless him and his family. He will be missed.

The Irish say that tears shed here speed a souls' progress to Heaven. In fact, they have professional criers, who weep for the departed. I would have had THAT job, had my great-grandparents not come to America! Crying is good for you. I find that when one person cries at a funeral, it allows others to mourn as well. It heals on all levels.

Thank you Steven. I'm glad you were able to go the Dan's funeral.
Your descriptions were vivid, I felt as though I was there too. I appreciate you taking the time to include us. A lot of us loved Dan every bit as much as we love Dewey & Gerry.

Dan's death brought my brother's death to the surface. My brother was brutally murdered by a serial killer. I consider/ed my older brother a successful man. As terrible as it was, he loved the Lord and his family and friends. He loved America and Dan. And his voice was even better than Dan's Gerry's or Dewey's, (no bias here ; ). I know he's where Dan is.

Some say "time heals all wounds." Wrong. One simply accepts, more readily, the loss and pain. (Just mho)

Dan or Tom answered my e-mails too. He said he liked reading my posts and that I ended them with, "Blessings". I was chastised for using "Blessings, Dewster, Joyster, the One Gerry, and other personal terms of endearment. I didn't want the hassle so I just gave it up. It wasn't enough for me to think it important to state what was in my heart, despite what Dan had said. Now, It's bittersweet to say that Dan's passing gave me the courage to use it again.

I bought Dan's book. It was sent to me signed: " Ocean, Thank you for supporting the Band, Dan Peek". He really loved D & G; even more so after he left the band. He was whole and new when he left America. He didn't leave because he was messed up. He left because he wasn't. I can imagine that must have been an agonizing thing to go through.

For the 40th Anniversary, I asked Dan if he would send Weuns' Inc. pictures of himself that we hadn't seen that were more on the personal and solo side of his life. He sent some great photos, including the precious photo of he and Catherine's wedding. I treasure that. We've shared most of those photos with America and Dan Fans. There's one he sent that we didn't share. I decided to keep it just for me. It's signed, "Blessings, Dan Peek". I keep it in my ready pack all the time to remind me where true North is. It reminds me not to settle. Dan didn't compromise his soul to gain the world. Why should he or anyone else?

Thank you Al and everyone who has contributed to this thread and gone outside their comfort zones to express their loss. It's helped me not only with the healing process regarding Dan, but with healing myself of some of my ugliest imperfections.

Blessings ; ),

O

I'm sorry. I started my post with, "Thank you Al." I meant to say, "Thank you" Steven. I guess you figured that out. What a nice guy to say what you said without mentioning my boo-boo. I'm making many posting mistakes these days that I've had to go back & edit. I've been a bit out of sorts. Thank you for knowing that and for your understanding at this vulnerable time.

Sorry For Your Tragic Loss

I just want to say I've missed you all and always remember..tell someone you love them even if things are not going well...you may not get that chance tomorrow.

...and I love ya;)

peace
Steven

There you are Bluey! I'm glad you brought this thread up. I've read it before, but it was probably in 2012, when I rediscovered America. Does that make me Columbus II???

I've got tears in my eyes. It's o.k. I've cried a lot in the last 30 years since my mom passed away. Big family means lots of tears, as they leave this life, one at a time. That's one of the beauties of the internet age: bigger family = more tears, but also more laughter. It's good to share life together.

Everybody was saying it, but it took me awhile to understand that one of America's gifts to us is that their music brings joy. Life isn't always fun. It's a great gift to be able to bring joy to people who just might be going through a tough time. Kudos to America!

Went to church this morning as I wanted to hear a visiting missionary speak. (For those who have maybe missed some of my past conversations, I'm sick of church as usual. I quit. Give me the real deal or I'll stay home, thank you very much.) As much as I love America's music, there is another dimension in worshipping God, especially when going through hard times. As you move into that dimension, you know beyond the shadow of a doubt, that things are going to be o.k. And I'm not even going through a hard time right now. But the world is and there are a lot of hurting people out there who need to know that there is a light at the end of the dark tunnel they're moving through.

I spoke with 2 women this morning who are cancer-free, after being diagnosed with Stage IV cancers, one of whom should not be alive today! She's the wife of the visiting missionary! It was such a joy to see their smiles and hear their testimonies of what God has done on their behalf. I told my own little story: large basal cell carcinoma on my lower eyelid. Made one of them laugh as I shared my adamant need to hear from God, and how I went about getting my need met. I heard, and God did exactly what He said he would do!

So for Steven, Woodz and anybody else out there who's going through a rough time: God sees. He hears. He hurts with you. He IS the answer. I have a finite, half-a-brain and I don't always understand the answer. But I know Him and I trust Him. More tears. But it's o.k.
