Say Derrick - Regarding Dan's playing on "Are You There," he said he did it on the first take. In case anyone hasn't viewed it before:

Video of "Are You There."

Dave - I totally agree with everything you said about the songs you mentioned of Dewey's on "Alibi." My favorite of his from that album is "Might Be Your Love." Plus, I really like the drumming on that song! I like to turn up the volume when "MBYL" is playing.

Plus Dewey - "might be your love",,might be...your heart... love that... i think this and survival would have been huge... or if this album followed even Hideaway... it would have been big...First one after GM at the helm and Capitol didn't seem to have their back...
but I don't know... maybe they did promote more than I remember

AIBI is the very best collection of fine songs.
When it didn't do so well, I said the public is wrong. This is a masterpiece, there is not a weak song on it.
Re-release it, it still stands very tall!

Totally agree, Jim, which takes me to my next topic/thread of conversation.

I agree full you both... I wish Hangover made the soundtrack of the movie... i mean tip toeing till ten... then after awhile i went downtown it was the beginning of my end... Perfect....and that could have force a re-issue for sure... of course the public was wrong too but if survival was the first single and i am sure they thought too much like SGH but i didn't think so plus it was 5.5 - 6 years later... great great album!

I really like Alibi. I think it is one of their best albums as a duo. I really like most of Dewey's stuff on it. I think two things hurt the albums sales:

1. The cover. Not only was it an odd picture on the cover, my girlfriend at the time was repulsed by it. Also, they used a new logo instead of the recognized logo.

2. Poor single selection. The first single "You Could Have Been the One" was ok, but I think "I Do Believe in You" or "Valentine" would have been better choices. Then they picked "Hangover" as the second single, which I think was a huge mistake. I thought of Hangover as a novelty song. It was one of my least favorite songs on the album. "Survival" was released in Europe and was a big hit in Italy, but was not released in the US.

Oh well, hindsight is 20/20

i agree and have said the single selection at times has been bad... survival and either might be your love or i do believe in you - there was a switch over to FM radio during this time and hangover was perfect for some of the rock channels to show what america had in them.... again hideaway - jet boy blue and don't let it get you down.... even she's gone and hurricane on harbor ... but def on alibi ... they didn't go with the right songs... sometime i thought they chose songs that might be easier to play live... what do i know though

You have to remember that the bosses at the record company have a huge say on what single is released. Today that is probably not such a big deal. But back then it was.

That is interesting Jimnak even the Beatles mayand stones didn't go top 40 every time but every time and i mean every time taylor swift goes top 10 no matter what... no that i don't think she isn't great but please every time ... i mean Lebron james and larry bird and bobby orr and wayne gretsky and whomever...magic johnson... they had bad games... it's like the radio stations are now - like we gotta play this..

PS - i grew up in the 70s and the Eagles/Henley may have taken over but the album Desperado... i don't even think had a top 40 hit... even though today DH sings desperado and tequila sunrise...i mean outlaw man... i remember but they weren't hitting the top 40 every time even though their songs like America's were better than the rest of the top 40... at least most of the songs
