OT: "Fooled Around And Fell In Love"

We all hate to admit it, but there's times when we discover something that we never knew but should have. Here's a case about something I never knew until the other day. It's regarding Elvin Bishop's song, "Fooled Around And Fell In Love."
I wasn't and still am not much of a fan of Elvin Bishop's music except for the above mentioned song and have always liked this particular song a lot. What I didn't know until the other day when I viewed the song on YouTube is the fact that the lead singer of the song is Starship's Mickey Thomas.
Here is an awesome video of "Fooled Around And Fell In Love" from a 1976 broadcast of The Midnight Special where Mickey Thomas sings a superb take of the song.
Something else that I didn't know was that Starship came to town one year ago this past August to put on a free concert sponsored by the city and a local foundation. This year's free concert was that of Bret Michaels. He put on a great show, but I would much rather have seen Starship instead. Oh well.

Here's another thing you may not have known about Elvin Bishop: he's an overalls kind of guy, too. Jeff and I saw him perform at the New Orleans Jazz Fest and sure enough, he was wearing overalls. They weren't pink though....

We saw him a couple years ago at the Budweiser Blues festival and I don’t recall him having blonde hair or wearing glasses either. But still loved the show!DanC

Interesting convo.... I can't say any of the 3 I would have gone to see...Sometimes an old dogs needs to see some not new obviously but different tricks anyway... but I may have had to be dragged to see any of the three... maybe not completely dragged to starship... The video though was very good - as usual K of G - good stuff. thank you

Well Dave, it’s like the old Charlie Daniels lyrics say from the song The South’s Gonna Do It Again, “Elvin Bishop’s sittin’ on a bale of hay, he ain’t good lookin’, but he sure can play”!

I'll tell you Danny - I was rip - sh*t when the band made the R & R hall of fame and not our boys and everyone said take a step back and listen and i was impressed so i will do the same here... just i really wonder how much the captain and tennille messed up our boys with that bogus muskrat love... it almost interrupted their momentum our boys had and with hideaway a solid album and an album where the boys showed a level of maturity with some rockier tunes like don't let it get you down, jet boy blue and she's a liar ... i don't know... just think America shot themselves in the foot with the wrong singles from Hideaway all the way through Alibi... i really think they could have stayed up with the Eagles level of music... just my two cents

The following lyrics are from Molly Hatchet's "Gator Country" where Charlie Daniels and Elvin Bishop are both mentioned along with a few other musicians:
I've been to Alabama, people,
Ain't a whole lot to see
Skynard says it's a real sweet home
But it ain't nothing to me
Charlie Daniels will tell you
The good Lord lives in Tennessee, ha!
But I'm going back to the Gator Country
Where the wine and women are free
There's a gator in the bushes
He's calling my name
And a saying come on, boy
You better make it back home again
There's many roads I've traveled
But they all kinda look the same
There's a gator in the bushes
Lord, he's calling my name
Old Richard Betts will tell ya Lord
He was born a Ramblin' Man,
Well, he can ramble on back to Georgia
And I won't give a damn
Elvin Bishop out struttin' his stuff
With little Miss Slick Titty Boom,
But I'm going back to the Gator Country
To get me some elbow room
Dave - Your mention of songs from "Alibi" written and sung by Dewey has prompted me to mention the following song that was released as a demo. I never knew that it was until I came across it on eBay just the other day. If I knew it at one time, I surely had forgotten.

this is awesome... thank you as always K.... If only the movie Hangover used this song.... the words are perfect for the movie... the starting slow after sundown and tip toeing up till 10...
Perfect... I am going to buy this - I have just about every one of their singles... from the original time till recent purchases...
