Warm Gone Gray
Posted on: 05/08/2019 07:15 PM

Greetings from Down Under. We are in Autumn and it's starting to get a lot cooler around my neighbourhood. Walking through the forest this morning when a bit of "warmth" came streaming through my iPod earplugs.

Apart from "Kiss Of Life" this would have to be my favourite of Gerry's solos. What's yours?

Enjoy.

Bluey.

Bluey - This is absolutely one of my faves from Gerry. I like a couple of the upbeat ones he's had a great deal too. Namely Emma and Saturday Sky. Dave

Hi Dave,

Years ago my wife and I went to Ray Davies' (The Kinks) solo acoustic concert in Sydney.
He played versions of Kinks songs, spoke about the good and bad experiences of life on the road during those hectic 60s & 70s. Audience participation included writing questions that were handed to him by staff. After he answered them, he autographed same and personally handed it back to the sender. Great stuff.

I understand Gerry has done similar concerts throughout the States over the years.
From memory he did one in Sydney a few years back...maybe "The Basement"?
Aussie concerts I've attended, he has an easy connection and rapport with the audience
(as does Dewey). Since he visits here regularly, hopefully he'll do a couple of similar shows.

Here's "Watching The Time" off "Happy Hour". I paid extra to have Gerry autograph my copy. Good setlist.

Kind Regards

Bluey.

GERRY has such a strong portfolio of solo material. It is hard to pick favorites, BUT WARM GONE GRAY is definitely at the top. There is so much rich material that GERRY has composed and performed, I sure hope he does do more solo live shows, for sure. GERRY has creative capacity that remains ready and willing. He is not done ! The key to GERRY is his energy and creative capacity.

DaveB2 Thank you Bluey - Love it!

You're welcome Dave. Unlike Gerry and Dan, I find it a pity that Dewey never did any solo work between America projects. Just an amazing voice. I really like Gerry's diversity with this one....

Just a sidebar observation...I notice that Dewey doesn't get a mention on the "Horizon Fall" credit sleeve because on "Warm Gone Gray", it really sounds like he supplies backing vocals?

Emma is a great song Bluey and I would love to see them add it to the rotation. It would really rock!

Other Gerry solo songs that deserve to be in the rotation:

Saturday Sky (they even redid it as a bonus track for Here & Now)
Goodbye Highway

Hi Mark,

"Here And Now" had varied bonus releases in different parts of the world. Down Under we were fortunate in having the Dewey Bunnell/Ryan Adams penned "Glass King"...

On the day of America's first "Here And Now" concert at the Sydney Opera House, Sydney's Daily Telegraph musical reviewer Greg Kelton gave "Here And Now" 4 out of 5 stars even suggesting that 'This collection puts them right up there in contention for album of the year'. I emailed the full review to Steve Lowry and he may have linked it somewhere on his AmericaFans site. I still have a copy.

What a good album. "Ride On" promotional appearance on David Letterman, Australian TV/radio promoting it by way of multiple interviews and live performances of "Chasing The Rainbow". Just a pity it didn't do better for them chart wise.

Hey Dave, just going off the beaten track for a moment, everytime I visit this site and see Gerry's VFTHWs (thanks for posting Mo) I always visualise him doing a cover of this song..

It's our first day of Winter. With our super hot summers, even stretching into late autumn, winter is now my favourite season.
