Learned something new about America
Posted on: 07/17/2017 09:26 AM

I was listening to a replay of Casey Kasem's American Top 40 from this week in 1976 on XM radio on Saturday and as part of his intro for America's "Today's the Day" he told the story of how the band had been selected by the US State Department to tour the Soviet Union as part of a cultural exchange program. They would have been the first western rock band to tour behind the Iron Curtain, but the Russians vetoed the idea.

I had heard that they had been considered, but lost out to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band who would tour a few years later, but never knew they had actually been selected but vetoed by the Commies!

Just another reason to hate communism!
