Friends, at one time there was more activity on this blog. There is less now. Are people blogging about America somewhere else? On facebook, maybe? Thanks if you can answer.

I guess it's because there's really not much to talk about and most other topics have been discussed virtually to their absolute limit

There was a brief period when the discussion on this board became heated due to expressed political (& religious) differences, which apparently left many people feeling less inclined to post here. Facebook appears to be where many people are going for news, discussion & sharing.
And someone told me too that it's true when you call aloud - It's only destiny or is it mystery (?)

Has anyone heard about an interview given by an Australian radio host and Gerry mentioned they will be releasing an album of new material in 2017.Has there been any more info about this?

New material ?
How about CAROUSEL by GERRY BECKLEY.
12 fabulous songs by GERRY. So very fine, so very rich.

From Amazon:
2016 solo album from the singer/songwriter best known for his work with the Grammy-winning band America. Recorded at his Los Angeles studio Human Nature, the shimmering 12-track album plays to all of Beckley's strengths; the singer, songwriter and musician played most instruments on the album. "With a solo project I'm really a committee of one," says Beckley. "There's only myself to please. Having said that, it's not always easy.

Each project is a snapshot in time. The material on Carousel came from a wide scope of inspiration." Carousel contains original standouts such as the deeply personal "Lifeline", "No Way I'm Gonna Lose You" (co-written with Dan Wilson who won an award for his work with Adele) and "Tokyo", of which Beckley says: "The song actually came to me while I was waiting to board a flight home from Japan. I seem to remember I lost track of time and almost missed the flight." There are also three covers on which Beckley puts his distinctive spin: Spirit's "Nature's Way", Gerry Rafferty's "To Each and Everyone" and Gerry and The Pacemakers' "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying". "I've fortunately never been short on inspiration for my original material but I do love to record a cover every so often," says Beckley. "These three are of course from my long list of fave songs."

I was referring to America. I have Carousel and it is a great album. Gerry mentioned America would be releasing new material this year.

You are quite right Almora, since Shasta went quiet, things here are rather subdued. I'm worried that she's become unwell. She really got things going here and stimulated topics. If you're still reading this Shasta, "Make Some Noise" as you always said. As for me,I'm reluctant to mention England as I'm still smarting from an unpleasant video previously posted here directed at me about July 4th! Honestly! Anyway, I'll be in NY again from May 25th, so if anyone fancies a fan chat and they're in the Manhattan area of Mercedes House, let me know and we could meet up for a couple of hours. Unfortunately, once again I'll miss The Lads by a few days performing at BB King's.
Peace and Love be with you all

You are quite right in your assumption, Derrick, unfortunately. But like I just posted elsewhere, I'm battling, as you have been. I've been kept very busy during the last 19 months and when I'm not busy, I'm resting/conserving energy. And I'm very sorry that somebody posted a distasteful video here, aimed at you. We're supposed to be adults and it's time we learn to behave respectfully to each other, whether we agree or not. Even if we don't LIKE each other, we can still behave respectfully!

Hi Almora. I'm still around, checking in from time to time. This is the first post I've made (2nd actually) in eons.

There are many reasons for the lack of discussions here. It's too bad. I have certainly had fun. But I've got to focus my time and energy elsewhere. I'll keep checking in from time to time.

Hello Shasta...I'm devastated to hear that you're unwell. You are the life and soul of this site and it's always great to hear from you and we've all missed you so much. You were very kind with your advice to me which I took to heart and I now bat back to you all the strength you sent to me.I sincerely hope you have friends and relatives nearby to give you support. Here we have the Macmillan Support Group which is fantastic in its efforts to help. I hope you have something similar in the Californian area.
God Bless.

It's good to see your post, S. You're still in my nightly prayers.

Prayers for you Shasta.

I think the big reason the board is dying is because of changes in technology. Message boards were very popular 10 to 20 years ago, but now social media seems to be superseding message boards. There are a couple of different America Facebook pages that are more active and have a better following than this message board. There is also a Dan Peek Facebook page as well.

As life goes on, things change. Over the years I have really enjoyed this message board and the Americas Fans message board that preceded it; heck I can remember the AOL America board. What is the old saying, the only constant in life is change.

Yes, there are some very active Facebook groups with a fun mix of knowledgeable fans and slightly crazy fan(atic)s posting photos of Gerry or Dewey. I miss the older days of this forum as a place to meet and discuss with others, but I think it still serves a very useful purpose as both a repository of knowledge and a more intimate place to have deeper discussions without a lot of side chatter that happens as Facebook threads get kind of hijacked more easily than these do. The recent discussion on "Follow the Buffalo" is a perfect example of the kind of discussion that appears here that would be difficult to have on Facebook, I think.

I also miss the weekly live chats we used to have about ten years ago. Those were really fun times and days in which I met some folks, virtually, who have in real life become some of my dearest friends.

I don't get to this forum as often as I used to, but I still appreciate all that I can read here. But, for a more active but perhaps more shallow (but fun!) spot, also check out Facebook Search for "America Fans" group, as well as my favorite spot of delightful zaniness...the "Spacebook" group devoted to Gerry, named after the joke he makes during the concerts in which he pretends not to know the name Facebook.

Shasta, you will be in my prayers, as will all of us who face the infirmities of life. I wish you good health and happiness. And best wishes to all the other familiar names on here, and greetings to the names I don't recognize so well!

Keep up the great discussions here! Long live the America Fan Blog!

Best wishes,
CaptDan

HI EVERYYYYYOOOOOOOONE!

Shasta: Thanks for checking in and sharing. I send you hugs, energy, and life.

DerricK; Sorry about the "July 4 incident." I don't know anything else about it, but if it was something anti-British, please take it with a proverbial molecule of salt. What would our two great nations, U.S.A. and U.K., be without each other? Where would we all be without Robert Johnson, Little Richard, Elvis, the Stones, Led Zeppelin, and the greatest-forever-Fab-Four?

Americafan & Capt. Dan: Thanks for sharing about Facebook. I do Facebook - it's great. It's less personal than blogging. I agree that the world must change, and I embrace it. To people who are (perhaps too) strongly traditional, I like to say, "Remember, it was change that created your cherished traditions!"

Everyone: I'll see and feel you here, on Facebook, at concerts, and someday on that "highway in the sky." I cherish you all!

I still check this blog from time to time, but there really is more activity via several Facebook pages, and that's really where the action is. But as was mentioned on an earlier comment, many topics have been discussed ad-nauseum to this point and don't need to be rehashed again. That's why I'm a very infrequent contributor anymore....

Hello All! I'm back from 550W 54th St NY after visiting my son again in Manhattan.I had a wonderful time.Everyone was so friendly. I love both Americas. Why is it every time I see a sign that says 'Riverside', the track goes thro' my head?? I'm miffed that I'll miss the band at BB Kings on the 15th/16th but I'll just play a few cds that evening and think of them. Good luck to them for the show. I seem to remember last year was a resounding success.
We saw a live recording of The Comedy Channel..'The President Show'. It was just so funny. Check it out to see a comedian more Trump than Trump (unless you're a Trump supporter of course). Life's too short to be serious.
Peace and Love
