OT: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

Shasta - You stated the following on the America Fan Blog-side of this website, but I thought I would bring the subject that I have in mind over to this side being that it's a Christian matter and Dan was a Christian.
You said, "People are the problem, because, despite the fact that there's some good in everyone, there's a whole lot of bad."
Remember that saying: WWJD - "What would Jesus do?" Well, I ask: what would Jesus say? This is what He said during a discussion with a rich young man (Mark 10:17):
"17As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 18And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone."
Question: If Jesus told the rich young man that only God is good, is Jesus saying He, too, is not good?

Hey, KoG, this isn't quite the post I thought it would be! You put a different twist on it than what I expected!
Point One; I'm not talking about human nature or the sin principle when I say there's good and bad in everybody. I'm talking about the capacity of men to do good deeds, in spite of their sinful nature. Even Hitler was good to his dog, so they say.
What I THOUGHT you were going to nail me with was "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. They have altogether gone astray..."
Now as for the "twist" you put on this. IF Jesus was only a human teacher, then His response was proper humility. But how many times did Jesus say, "I and the Father are one."??? Did He forget for a minute Who He was? Was He having a bad day?
I don't think so. Beyond that, I don't know. There's just one thought that floats around in my mind. If you read the entire encounter with the man, he felt he had kept ALL the commandments, truly an amazing feat. The commandments were given to show us how helpless we are at following a set of rules, not to provide us with righteousness. So Jesus asked him to do one more thing, and I think he knew the man wouldn't do it. He told him to go home, sell everything, give the proceeds to the poor and then come back and follow Him. The man walked away sad, because he wasn't willing to give up his stuff to follow a "good teacher." It was all the revelation the man had and for some reason, Jesus didn't enlighten him.

Right, S, if Jesus was only a human teacher, His response showed proper humility as you said. Again, yes, Jesus said He and the Father are one.
Mark 10:18 "And Jesus said to him [the young rich man], "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone."
John 10:11 "I [Jesus] am THE good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."
Following the above quotations, we can logically come to the conclusion of #3 below. We can also answer: if Jesus told the young rich man that only God is good, is Jesus saying He, too, is not good?
1: Jesus claims only God is good.
2: Jesus claims to be good.
3: Therefore, Jesus claims to be God!!!
