I always think back to the days when the group was a trio. The harmonies and different writing styles,to me at least was what made America so special. I started e mailing with Dan 2 years ago and was surprised that he wrote back. We exchanged 17 e mails and although we mainly discussed general topics in one e mail we did discuss America. I had the feeling that Dan would of loved to play with them again, maybe not rejoin but perhaps as a guest. It's sad it never happened. I'm sure many of their fans would of loved to have seen it.

Hi Craig...I think it is difficult for those of us that go back to when the band was a trio not to think of those days. Not that Gerry and Dewey haven't done a great job carrying on as a duo. But definitely the three together were magic(no pun intended). You were Blessed to have those email exchanges with Dan. I always got the feeling that Dan would have loved to played with the guys one more time, as you stated not to rejoin the group but as a guest or one-off show. My last memory of Dan with the band was a show I attended in Lake Tahoe in April of '76. Silver opened for the band, George Martin was in attendance/pointed out and the band played many songs off "Hideaway" including "Today's The Day". So glad I have those memories :)
That was great you got to experience TODAY'S THE DAY. I wish there was a video of a live version, have never seen one. That is a Dan classic and a very warm & to the heart song. Where is a video?

Jimnak...I agree, I wish there was a live video of "Today's The Day", I've never seen one or any concert footage of that song. As an AMERICA fan from Day 1, that whole Tahoe trip was amazing for me. Driving up, we saw the AMERICA plane at the Tahoe Valley Airport. While waiting in line for the dinner show, I met Gerry as he was walking through the casino. The legendary Sir George was in the audience. I already had the "Hideaway" album, although it had just come out I knew the songs by heart. Hearing the new songs live is always so awesome, hearing "Today's The Day" live by the 3 was the "icing on the cake"!!
I obviously don't remember the whole set list from that night so I looked on Steve Lowry's site. Here is a set list from April 30, 1076...I'm sure our set list was similar if not identical and I do remember "Hideaway Part II" being played at the end.

Joy, thank you!!! You made the most entertaining typo in your last post - the year 1076! I'm thinking that was about the time of the signing of the Magna Carta, tying in nicely with Gerry and Dewey's English roots (not to mention one of the foundation stones for our own Constitution). NOW I understand why I feel so old at times! Being just a tad younger than Dewey, that makes us approximately 961 years old! The band has INDEED had great longevity, and I can appreciate their trial and tribulations over all the travel they do!
Again, Joy, thank you! I'm going to twitter over this one all day long! I wish I could make such fun typos!!! I hope you have an enjoyable day. You certainly brightened mine!
