My wife and I went to the show at the Mississippi Moon Bar last night in Dubuque Ia. The guys put on one hell of a show. We really enjoyed ourselves and met the guys afterwards. They were really cool and signed our shirt for us. We weould definately go see them again.

They sure did! There was a full moon in the sky on a cold night in Dubuque, when the show started inside the Diamond Jo Casino’s Mississippi Moon Bar. It began with a photo montage, set to the instrumental song, Miniature. Then America took the stage and performed Tin Man, You Can Do Magic, Don’t Cross the River, Old Man Took, and Daisy Jane.
They introduced their next song, a cover of the Everly Brothers’ All I Have To Do Is Dream, by telling a story of how they opened for the Everly Brothers for one of their very first shows in the United States.
After that, they sat down and played Riverside, Three Roses, Rainy Day, I Need You, and Here. If I remember correctly, Gerry and Dewey took turns singing Rainy Day; and what a treat it was! The guitar riff sounded so good; every time I hear it, I can just visualize raindrops rolling down a windowpane.
The stools were put away and they launched into Ventura Highway, Foolin’, Sleeper Train, Cornwall Blank, Hollywood, The Border, Woman Tonight, Only In Your Heart, California Dreamin’, and Lonely People. Getting to hear Foolin’ and Sleeper Train were among the many highlights of the evening – nice to hear songs from Silent Letter and Hourglass.
They ended the show rocking the crowd with Sandman, Sister Golden Hair, and Horse With No Name.
I was hoping to hear Dewey’s song, Dream Come True, but he didn’t perform that one last night. I look forward to hearing it sometime! The only other regret was that security seemed to be rushing along the meet and greet. I did have a brief but very nice conversation with Dewey, and ANY opportunity to speak with them is appreciated!
I enjoyed meeting Rich (rafacko), his wife Dena, and their son Rich and his fiancée Cassie. They were in the row directly behind us. It was Rich & Cassie’s first America show. I sat with my friend and fellow America fan Michelle, and her husband Tim, at the show. My husband and youngest son and I enjoyed having breakfast with Michelle and Tim this morning at the hotel, before we all headed back home.
I was so excited to see America in the middle of winter, as I’ve never got to see them between October and March and it’s always such a long winter without an America concert! They have a way of just making your cares melt away.
I was also very happy to see them back in Dubuque, which is just a short 1.5-hour drive for me. I had seen them there at outdoor shows during the summers of 2003 & 2004 and had been hoping they’d come back. As many America shows as I’ve been to, I still think it is so amazing to be just a few feet away from them listening and watching them play the songs that have been my favorites for years.

Karen, great review of the show. Nice to meet you and Michelle. Can't think of much to add. It really was a magical night. Dewey and Gerry looked like they were having as much fun as we were. They were full of energy. Could have been the full moom or the oxygen they pump in the air at the casinos. It is always nice to be able to say hi to Dewey and Gerry. Security did rush us and did not allow any photos at the meet and greet. My son Rich and his fiancee Cassie experienced AMERICA for the first. Rich said "one of the best shows I have seen". And he has been to more concerts than anyone I know. Thanks again for a great show.

Wow!
Awesome photos, Farmgirl. Glad to see that you had a great time. That is a fantastic set list, too. Looks like their 40th is shaping up very nicely. Can't wait to see them in March.

Thanks for the great review and pictures, KL. I was anxiously awaiting somebody to post about the show. I'm glad you had such a good time. I hope the guys keep the same set list for French Lick. Some of those gems I've never heard performed live, but they've been some of my favorits. Can't wait to see them again in a few weeks. I hope the crazy Indiana weather cooperates. Sometimes, it can be a real mess around here at that time of year.

Hi Everyone!
Welcome aboard putt1978, nice to see you and your wife were treated to America's Magic. I love getting to see America, each and every time I see them it is like seeing them for the 1st time all over again. I hope you do get to see them again. Thanks for stopping in and sharing your ramblins with us. Was this your first time seeing them? What were your thoughts about the playlist of songs played there?
Hi KarenL ~~ I am soooo happy you were able to go see America again. Neat name for the venue, especially being that it was a Full Moon evening. :) Nice that you got to share this fun with Michelle & Tim, (every time I watch my Soundstage dvd, I can see she and her hubby as the camera is scanning around) and getting to mee rafacko and his wife. It's always fun sharing America's Magic with fan friends. Thanks for sharing your ramblins, you have spelled out a very nice visual for me indeed. Reading that you got to have breakfast with Michelle & Tim. I remember you getting up sooo early the morning after the Soundstage taping and waiting in the hotel lobby with me, while I waited for my cab to come take me to the airport. :) It was wonderful getting to meet you and your family and sharing that whirlwind magic with you all. Wow, getting to hear Gerry & Dewey sing "All I Have to do is Dream" I sooo love this song, by the Everly Brothers. I will hope to get to hear it in May when I get to see them again. Rainy Day is one of the early gems that had a way of taking hold of me, I am wondering what gave them he hankerin to add this song to their seated part of the show. Sleepertrain is one of my favorite hit the replay on song as I drive here and there in Bessie. I love that they have added it to the playlist. Foolin is a great song to hear live. The new beginning Montage to Miniature, sounds very fitting for an opening. Thanks America for the new treats you are adding to the shows. I am sure you are still walking up above the clouds today, enjoy your America Afterglow. Thanks for sharing your Pics with us, they have brought a Warm Smile to my oooh sooo cold office on this monday, monday. Take care :)
Hi rafacko ~ Rich, nice that you Dena headed to this show with your son and his fiancee. I always love hearing of fans taking along their family and friends. Reading that they said this was a great show, brought a Smile my way for sure.
GerryforPresident ~ a few weeks will be here before we know it, sooo I am going to stop and say to you, have a great time at the show, I hope the weather does cooperate for you to get there alright. Please do come back and share your magic with us.
Have a good day all, take care, Nancyh :)

Thanks for the reviews on the IA show -- and thanks, Karen, for the set list and photos. Looks like Dubuque was a good place to be Jan. 30th since many of us south and east of Iowa were under ice and loads of snow! Who would have guessed?!!

I have to admit that Karen did a great job recalling the highlights of the show (and there were so many). It was a terific venue -- small and intimate which is always a great place to see an America show. It also sounded fantastic -- no wait, that's all America shows.
I've always loved the acoustic guitars and getting a chance to experience the 5 song acoustic set was definately a treat. It really was awesome to hear All I Have to Do is Dream, too. It's always nice to hear the ones that you have never heard live before. I feel like I'm repeating what Karen already said, but after the great acoustic set, I thoroughly enjoyed Foolin' and Sleeper Train. It is worth repeating. Great choices, guys!
I can't remember what songs specifically, but Woodsy's talents were showcased quite a bit more on the set list of that evening. It was nice to hear him jammin' even more than normal.
I also believe that Rich played a little keyboard on I Need You, if memory serves me correct. That was nice to hear, too.
As always, it's nice to be able to talk to the guys after the show even for just a brief moment. So, thanks for continuing to do that, Gerry & Dewey. The show is always great, but the meet & greet is like the icing on the cake.
It was truly an awesome evening.
While my husband, Tim, and I were eating breakfast with Karen, Mike, and Kyle, the next morning, we perused the local Sunday newpaper. There was a small review in the local newspaper which was pretty brief and mainly showcased a few fans. There is a link to a 1 minute video on the newspaper's website. If anyone is interested, the link is THonline.com. If you look under "Our Pix & Flix" there is a picture of America. Click on that to see the video.
America has definately made my week. It's Tuesday, and I'm still smiling from Saturday's concert. Hopefully, I will keep smiling until the next one (whenever that is.)

Just wanted to post once more to say I appreciate everyone’s responses to the Dubuque concert reviews. It’s fun to hear from different people who attended the same show. It’s nice to be able to share the excitement from an America show with others and makes the fun last a little bit longer. Thank you Rich & Diane for starting the thread; nice to have you both, and Michelle, join this forum and I hope we’ll hear more from each of you. GFP, I’ll look forward to hearing about the show in Indiana! Have a good weekend, everyone.
