America Fan Spirit Award (Unofficial)
Posted on: 01/20/2010 11:27 AM
America friends,
I think it would be fun and appropriate to acknowledge those who display great America fan spirit on this blog.
Let's have an unofficial America Fan Spirit Award.
I propose these rules:
1. The vote will occur on only this string.
2. Anyone with at least 10 posts can be a "voter".
3. Each voter can vote once.
4. A voter can not vote for him/herself.
5. Vote by posting someone's name as follows: "I vote for X."
6. Voting starts now.
7. On the evening of Sunday January 24 I'll tally the votes and post the results.
8. The winner will receive the title "America's Number One Blogger" and we'll use the acronym "AN1B" for fun going forward.
In voting, you may want to consider your candidate's number of posts on this site, the quality of posts, the number of concerts they may have attended, and other expressions of great fan spirit.
I respectfully ask that Steve Lowry and I not be voted upon. In my humble opinion, Steve is the unmatched number one fan, considering his wonderful site and his contributions to this blog. And I'm running the vote, plus I know for a fact there are many out there who deserve a vote more than I do.
For fun: I have a "favorite" in mind but I'll keep that secret until after the tally.
I hope we get a good turnout and I look forward to seeing our results!

While I sincerely appreciate being your "favorite," I must decline because I am busy and do not have the time to fulfill my duties. Opening for the band would be a dream come true but my other commitments, unfortunately, will not allow me to do that.
My vote goes to Rich Campbell.
He is such an avid fan that not only does he post here often with positive and insightful comments, but he takes the time out of his schedule to follow the band around from show to show and help them out on bass.

Friends, note that Steve Lowry has voted for Rich Campbell.
My idea is for someone who is a fan and not "officially" part of the America organization.
With all respect to Steve Lowry, I recommend that we disqualify Rich Campbell from being voted in, given that he's in the band.
To be clear, I also recommend that we not vote for Erin, the band's road manager, any band roadies, family of the band, etc.
So four persons are disqualified so far:
1. Steve Lowry because he's Number 1 given his web site.
2. Al Mora because he's running the pole and shouldn't win anyway.
3. Rich Campbell because he's in the band.
4. Erin because she's professionally associated with the band.
Thanks
Al Mora

Al, those fans' numbered posts can be deceptive. I have something like 1,000 plus posts displayed, where in fact, if you do a search for "Bluey" in Search Bulletin Board, you'll see it's only 257. I just bring most of my posts forward after I have finally edited it to how I want it.
It's really hard to pick one person Al, but in the spirit of the thread -
NancyH.
Over the 6 or so years that I have been a member of the various America blogs, Nance always has only friendly and positive things to say about all things America and their fans. Her musical knowledge is amazing. She truly lights up the blog with her ramblins :)
I'd like to add "special mentions" but there's just too many.

My vote goes to Bluey, for his always-informative posts! (And if he wins, he should get a pair of round trip tickets to the US so he can see some shows!)

I apologize for being a social dissident, but I have to go with the inspired votes of MUNIK and Mr. Lowry.
I vote for Rich Campbell.
That is not to say I detract from the validity and heartfelt votes for Nancy H. nor Bluey. Both of them have always been a positive and informative and...well completely enthusiastic force on this blog. Well done to both of you.
However, Rich, though he is of the America Limited crew, he goes well above and beyond. This site's mere existence is proof of that. And, quite frankly, he is always engaging and kind whether it is in person or in cyberspace. I have yet to hear a negative utterance from him on any subject.
Hey, Dew and Ger, give that man a raise, eh??

I can't argue with you there Mo. From what I have read and been told, Rich is not only a great webmaster but also a quality bloke as well.
Although I thank you and Anita for your kind words, I just feel that this well-intentioned thread really has a "no-win" situation. Everyone here knows that Al is very passionate about America and their fans...there's justs too many "special mentions".
Anita for her posts and chat involvement over the years, plus her America lyric interpretations for SteveL's "Songs" section.
You, NancyM, Jenny, Chuck, SusanneS, Margaret, Jen and others for concert reviews, photos and video clips. It is very appreciated.
Steve Orchard & Sage for their incredible knowledge of America's and general musical background.
Joe Doyle for making his two tribute "Homemade America" CDs available to fans here for only costs plus postage.
And the list goes on......
I feel very fortunate that, at the touch of a finger (literally), I not only get updated news about this great band but talk to fellow fans all around the world.
For nearly 40 years, Dewey, Gerry and Dan's music has been a great companion....the beauty is, they are still amongst us, recording and touring.
Love your last post Bluey as I love all of your posts.
I expected a bit of the "no-win" element you mention when I started this string. But I thought it was worth the risk.
I see this as also having a "no-lose" element. People have already made lots of heartfelt, heartwarming comments.
With me being (a little bit arrogantly) self-appointed judge & jury, maybe I'll come up with a fun, fair solution in the final tally:)

I would never associate the word "arrogant" with you Al. You tried something different which brought some very nice comments.
Just so this thread is not totally lost, here's a favorite featuring recent birthday boy, Dewey. It also includes Dan having a "very bad hair day", beer and Willie actually smiling at the end.

Very close! I love and appreciate everybody's detailed accounts of exciting concerts, I love nancyh's or cre8ifsage's contributions, but I think I'll give my vote to bluey because he seems such a devoted and enthusiastic fan and is never lost for something to share with us.
Good on ya bluey!

Although I adore everyone on this blog, I'm gonna have to go with cre8ifsage....such a sweetie, his picture posts are always impressive and I know he has a lotta love for this band :) Such a sweetie he is!
Just a reminder it's Saturday and tomorrow evening I'll tally up the votes. You have today and tomorrow left to vote or comment!
Thanks for all the neat posts so far.
[Also, a small correction. In my second post on this string I said Steve Lowry voted for Rich Campbell. That's just me going way too fast. It was Kevin, as in MyUserNameIsKevin who voted for Rich.]

No question about it, you deserve it, and I am not surprised!
Above all, thanks Bluey for keeping the spirit alive and keeping the tone on this blog so friendly.
Here are all the votes as I counted them, including Rich Campbell;
3 bluey
2 Rich Campbell
2 cre8ifsage
1 NancyH
Thanks to all four of you for your time, thoughtfulness, and friendship. You are an important reason this blog is the most friendly, fun online place I know of.
Thanks to everyone for voting and commenting.
Maybe I'll do this again next January.
Until then, rock on AN1B!

While I appreciate everyone's support, it is with great regret that I must withdrawal from this race.
The recent allegations, untrue as they may be, have made it impossible for me to continue on, and unfair to my supporters and my family. I intend to fight these erroneous charges with all of my efforts and with every means at my disposal.

Bluey,
I agree. It is hard to pick just one person. I didn't vote because I think everyone here has useful input in one way or another. There are just too many fine bloggers.
But I strongly agree with you regarding NancyH. She's a person more of us could aspire to be. She's kind to everyone and her insights are fun and inspiring. In short, She's a blast! Thank you for bringing this up. I appreciate her and her contributions to this board. It was a nice thing for you to do. " )
They are totally different bloggers, but I think GlassKing is a hoot too. Imo, his posts make this blog more fun to read. Some wouldn't agree but to each his own. I can't deny that he knows a lot about America and music in general. His name isn't on one (or two) of America cd's for nothing. He also has a good sense of humor. I give credit where I think credit is due.
Thank you.
Thank you Al " ).
My Best,

Thanks Mrs H for posting all of the "special mentions".
Ocean's post just reinforced my thoughts on the subject.
Thanks Kathleen. Johnny has been noticeably absent from the blog for awhile now O...any reason for that?
Although our friend Al Mora started this thread with the best of intentions, IMPO no awards are needed....or accepted.
It maybe an understatement, but what draws us together is our love for all things associated with America's music.
It would be amiss of me if I didn't thank Rich and everyone who posted their very kind words on this thread. Before I cross the river Jordan, I do hope to meet some of you in person....
just like "Thommo", who posted on VH's blog a couple of years ago, and his lovely wife, Karen. We met up for dinner before America's 2007 Sydney Opera House concert and have stayed in contact ever since.
Enough said...it's time to move on.
I enjoy reading everyone's posts, so please keep them coming.

Hi Everyone :)
Thanks steven (getting to see America that night at the Palace Theatre show was more than a free trip around the candy store) :), janie and Chaz for your kind words!
Thanks Bluey for your reply, ( I hope all is going well for Thommo too), even after I edited my post a number of times, my mind kept stirring up names of fans that have frequented the chat folder and live chat and blog. Alot of wonderful people from all around, have crossed my Life Path in my Love for America and their music, and I will forever cherish each and every one of you.
I finally got to watch this Reintroduction of Here and Now and I enjoyed listening to it. It's always fun and interesting to hear interviews with Gerry & Dewey. I just wish the people doing the interview would have the courtesy to check with the pronounciation of their names before hitting the record on the interview. It has to be frustrating hearing your name said the wrong way. Thanks for sharing this with us Bluey. Have a good day all, take care, Nancyh :)

Hi Nancy, what a great photo of you, D & G. They obviously recognised you because there's real warmth in those smiles.
A treasured memento for a very special person.
Unfortunately Thommo (Greg) hasn't been in the best of health for sometime now but we emailed last week and he visits here often. He has followed America since the beginning, a true America tragic :) Cheers mate.
