THE RASPBERRIES I intentionally chose Todd Rundgren's "I Saw The Light" instead of one of his other songs such as "Hello It's Me" or "We Gotta Get You A Woman" to segue into the Raspberries. I was going to mention the following from the Raspberries Greatest Hits CD liner notes but got sidetracked until now: Eric Carmen: "When the Raspberries were recording our first album, we were at Record Plant in New York in Studio B, and Todd Rundgren was in Studio A. Todd came by and stuck his head in the door and we happened to be mixing the song 'I Saw The Light.' Todd listened for a couple of minutes and then he left. Then the last song we had to mix that day was called 'I Can Remember.' Todd came by again and stuck his head in the door, listened and walked away. "Something/Anything" came out a month before the Raspberries' first album. The first track on the album was 'I Saw The Light,' and I thought, 'That's interesting, what a coincidence.' I listened to the song and it didn't really sound like ours, but lyrically it had some very similar things going on. Then the next song of Todd's album started out with this keyboard, and he was playing the exact chords to 'I Can Remember,' and the first line of the song was 'Do you remember,' and I thought, thievery. So I decided to get my revenge. My favorite song on his album was 'Couldn't I just Tell You.' So I sat down with my guitar one day and figured out that guitar part and reworked it and wrote 'I Wanna Be With You.' Then Todd came to Carnegie Hall when we played with Stories. I walked past him when we were sitting at a table and I said, 'I loved 'Couldn't I Just Tell You,' and he looked at me and said, 'That figures.'" "I Wanna Be You"
