With today being Turkey Day (Thanksgiving) here in the U.S., it had me wondering how many times the former trio mentioned birds in their song lyrics, and I'm not meaning just the word "birds" but a specific kind. I thought there would be more, but there was only a few. Here they are (if I missed any, feel free to mention it/them). LADY WITH A BLUEBIRD She was a lady with a bluebird sleepin' in her chair She was dreamin' 'bout a girlfriend and wishing she was there FLY Fly, robin up in the air High on a wing and a prayer ONE MORNING Round the bend to the run-off wash I found a feather that a quail had lost PIGEON SONG Well, I had me a pigeon By the name of Fred But I done shot him In the head SANDMAN 'Cause I understand you've been running from the man That goes by the name of the Sandman He flies the sky like an eagle in the eye Of a hurricane that's abandoned CHRISTMAS IN CALIFORNIA The boulevard, lights of red and green As the snowbirds make the scene I feel quite sure Dewey was meaning "a northerner who moves to a warmer southern state in the winter" when he mentioned "snowbirds"; however, there is actually a bird known by name as a snowbird.
