Large electronic posters of Dewey and Gerry indicated the path to the entrance of this new venue. Airport style security screening awaited concert goers. Perhaps this contiibuted to the large number of people arriving well into Russell Morris's set. Seats close to the stage were snapped up rapidly despite trying to buy tickets online as soon as they went on sale. We had an elevated but distant view of this show. There were some omissions from the Melbourne report that were also evident in Sydney. Andy does a great job with lead vocals on Don't Cross the River. Ryland is incredibly dynamic on the drums. Dewey is very proud of his Christmas present guitar. Dan Peek was referred to in relaion to Lonely People. The vocal harmonies were wonderful, especially on Here. The videos were on huge screens at both venues. Jeff did an excellent job on the sound in this big new venue. The band was relaxed. There was more conversation including references to family, Gerry's "local" status, America's fondness for Australia, Greenhouse (more on that later) and some of the old lines that regular concert goers would recall. The setlist was the same as the Melbourne one and it highlights songs from a wide variety of albums. The audience was animated, not just from enjoying the music but from the steady stream heading to and from the bar. I don't recall seeing such movement in previous Australian shows. I spotted a familiar face with ease and we had a chat and at the end of the show we were spotted by friends we met at the 1999 New Year's Eve show. We had unsuccessfully looked for them in Melbourne. They had travelled to Sydney when there was no show in their city this time. We found a place to extend our conversation in Darling Harbour. During the show Gerry had mentioned that Greenhouse had only recently been added to the show. He related a story where he said it was from the '90s in a recent show and a fan had called out that it was in the '80s. We had discussed it after the Melbourne show and I recalled hearing it in a Sydney show before it came out on CD. It would have been either 1988 or 1991. Last night our friends confirmed it was 1988 and they heard it at the same venue where we had heard it. Not only was it good to attend the show, but it was also good to reminisce about shared past shows. We walked back to our accommodation at 1 am and set the alarm for a 6 am rise. America has a loyal band of return fans in Australia. This was another sold out show. Gerry said that as long as the audience kept coming to their shows they would keep returning. P.S. On the long drive back from Melbourne we passed a big white bus with Venturabus emblazoned on it!
