Hey, KoG, this isn't quite the post I thought it would be! You put a different twist on it than what I expected! Point One; I'm not talking about human nature or the sin principle when I say there's good and bad in everybody. I'm talking about the capacity of men to do good deeds, in spite of their sinful nature. Even Hitler was good to his dog, so they say. What I THOUGHT you were going to nail me with was "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. They have altogether gone astray..." Now as for the "twist" you put on this. IF Jesus was only a human teacher, then His response was proper humility. But how many times did Jesus say, "I and the Father are one."??? Did He forget for a minute Who He was? Was He having a bad day? I don't think so. Beyond that, I don't know. There's just one thought that floats around in my mind. If you read the entire encounter with the man, he felt he had kept ALL the commandments, truly an amazing feat. The commandments were given to show us how helpless we are at following a set of rules, not to provide us with righteousness. So Jesus asked him to do one more thing, and I think he knew the man wouldn't do it. He told him to go home, sell everything, give the proceeds to the poor and then come back and follow Him. The man walked away sad, because he wasn't willing to give up his stuff to follow a "good teacher." It was all the revelation the man had and for some reason, Jesus didn't enlighten him.
