Morning, KoG. FIRE UPDATE: It's 65% contained, as of last night. People, my friend who's back on chemo, for example, still can't return home because the power is still off and so is the water. When they DO return, they will have to boil drinking water! That is unheard of here, because our water is extremely pure, as is our air - when we don't have smoke from forest fires! Our high school kids are collecting clothing for the 19 Weed high schoolers who lost their homes. You have to remember, these are small towns, with small schools. Our local church collection center has more than enough clothing - for now. They are extremely organized. Portable showers and kitchens are set up in Weed, near the college. I'd heard rumors they brought in a DC-10 from the Yosemite fire, to drop retardant Monday. That is true! I can't imagine that. But it was the fire retardant that saved what was saved. Otherwise, over 1,000 homes would have been lost. They brought in cadaver dogs yesterday. No missing persons reported. It's just a precaution. One looter was caught and the items returned. They're demolishing the wood chip piles at the mill with a bulldozer, so they can check for smoldering fires and put them out. I've taken food items to the collection center, twice. Will hopefully take more, if they're open over the weekend. I just learned that homes sprayed with retardant have to be scrubbed before people return. They're working on that now. People evacuated just outside the fire perimeter will be permitted to return home tomorrow and can sleep at home. Those inside the fire perimeter may return between the daylight hours of 7 to 7 only. Signs have been posted for people to be aware of building contractor scams. Also properties have been flagged, using a color system as to what kinds of inspections have taken place, so there's no duplication. Until it hits close to home, you have NO idea how much goes into the recovery process. In looking at a map of the fire path, it was very narrow and long, jumping US Highway 97 and continuing to the north a fair distance. Obviously wind-driven. Please keep praying.
