Nice Tribute / A Question for Tom Peek re "Light Of The World"
Hello bluey,
It would be great if "Light of the World" could be re-released as a download. But, as applies to much of Dan's music it is not likely.
I would love to re-release "Light of the World" and Dan's other CCM albums but we do not have the rights to the music. You would think that if a person wrote and performed a song, it would belong to that person... but in the weird world of music publishing the rights to the music is often in the hands of faceless companies who are un-willing or un-interested.
To be fair though, the original publishing agreements provided the resources to record and publish the music. The whole subject is pretty murky.
What bothers me is when I see songs I wrote for Dan like "Lighthouse", "Magnolia" and "Power and Glory" get re-released on compilation albums without my say (or remuneration) when I own the copyrights.
I used to have the original pre-recorded cassette of "Light Of The World." All I have now are 4 songs from that as part of the Dan Peek "Unplugged" 2 CD collection I received years ago from an America fan. As far as reissues go, an old company named Thoughtscape sounds offered up "All Things Are Possible" and "Doer Of the Word" back in the 90's. They were pricey Japanese imports, but I went ahead and bought them complete with the original artwork and liner notes. I have never seen "Electrovoice" or "Crossover" on disc, but I have since transferred either my vinyl or cassette copies to disc. Dan left us with a great body of work and I'm grateful to be able to tap into that whenever I want. SteveO
